As for the velocity, first realize that the 7x300 Wby and the 7 STW are very similar cartridges balisticly. Years back we really didn’t have the best powder to give max performance from them and others as well. For many years many of us used H870, which gave me about 3250 FPS using 89/90 gr with the 162 gr bullet with a 30” barrel. When 7828 became available i was advised to try it. And that made an entirely different gun out of my 7x300 Wby. Mind you now I don’t shoot those guns year round. Only in the fall in cooler weather. Also realize that when the door slams with that powder, it slams fast. There will be no slow to show pressure signs with a slightly sticky bolt at least in my experience. 78/79 gr max (in my gun) is good with the 162, 80 gr especially on a warmer day or a warmer barrel wont be. I’d be trying the powder in your gun by loading just one round in half grain increases, and shooting them over a chronograph. No need even for a target, or any specific distance, even a dirt pile for a backstop will suffice. At the slightest sign of a sticky bolt, stop and back up to the last one for the max load. You are only looking for velocity, not a load at this point. But i always start with finding the max velocity first, and so do many others. Then try to make that work well with various seating depth changes before reducing the powder charge. Again, these are cool weather hunting loads for hunting guns.
