[ QUOTE ] Is there any real difference in these on Deer sized animals at 500-600m Comparing 120 in the 260, 130 in the 270 and 7mm, I know the 270 wins on paper, but is it noticibly better out in the field? does it have significantly better killing power? Is there much between the 260 and 7mm08 at these distances? Thanks Grant [/ QUOTE ] I've been out at the range and I've seen some nice groups out of a 260 and my 270's. A better comparison is a real deer load like the 140 grain in both the 260 and 270. The 260 max is @2750 fps, where the 270 is 400 fps faster hand loaded with long case life. The 7mm-08 kind of top out just over 2800 fps from loading data I've seen. Out to 400 meters they are all good for deer sized animals. At 500-600 meters the additional starting speed of the 270 would take over. I also use the 150 boat tails in my 270 at over 300 fps faster the the 260 and with about the same BC. The 270 is going to be using 10 grains more powder and is not a suitable in light weight mountian guns. The 140 boat tails in 260 have a BC of .595 and the 270 .550 even less for the 7mm 140's
