The 140 lb doe and 200 lb buck were both with Federal Fusion 90 gr both were pass throughs, the two 100lb deer were with Winchester PowerPoint 100 gr ammo, one passthrough, one just under the skin on the off side. The deer I lost this season was with Win PP ammo as well, dont know if it was a pass through. I know this stuff was far from premium ammo, but in these cases I knew I would be well under 300 yds so I didnt think it mattered. The reason I am so interested in a good blood trail is because although I hunt open fields, they are surrounded by either young pine farms, or old woods that is super brushy and thick. Even if they make it just 40-50 yards in, it can be very hard to find deer. I can only shoot factory ammo right now, so would a premium bullet like the Partition be a better choice? I am not sure how a Ballistic Tip would perform in a 90-100 gr bullet on large (250lb is possible) whitetail. Would that be worth looking into? Thanks, I really appreciate the help. I am getting a .30 cal of some sort this summer, but I would like to use the .243 as well. Its just alot of fun to shoot.
