Specifically, hunting rifles. Well over the years I've bought 8 or 9 hunting rifles that are all splendid. I picked up one after deer season last year that I'd always wanted, before I'd met him. Well he sold it to me and I just really wanted to kill a deer for him as it was one of his top 3 favorite hunting rifles among a very nice 100 plus rifle collection. It's a model 7 MS in 308 built in the Remington Custom Shop. So I went out on Nov 1st with this rifle. Any day it was nice, I'd carry this rifle. I threw up the little rifle with a 4x Diatal scope and squeezed the trigger. Bang, flop. The deer didn't kick, wiggle, it's tail never even flickered. I got down thinking, Tom's gonna be pretty psyched. When I got to him, I first noticed how big his body was. He has a nice wide rack, but nothing crazy.
so over the last 7-8 years I’ve built a great friendship with a gentleman that loves firearms as much as I do. Specifically, hunting rifles. Well over the years I’ve bought 8 or 9 hunting rifles that are all splendid. I picked up one after deer season last year that I’d always wanted, before I’d met him. Well he sold it to me and I just really wanted to kill a deer for him as it was one of his top 3 favorite hunting rifles among a very nice 100 plus rifle collection. It’s a model 7 MS in 308 built in the Remington Custom Shop. So I went out on Nov 1st with this rifle. Any day it was nice, I’d carry this rifle. Anyhow I got in the stand about 3 o’clock that afternoon and within in minutes I started seeing deer. A couple does a small 8 point and some 1.5 yo bucks. Then I saw a nice 8 about 3:50. The sun was glaring a bit and I completely misjudged this animal. I knew he was nice, just unsure he was what I wanted. Well I could have killed him, but let him go on up the ridge. I thought, did I mess up? Maybe I should have shot him? As the afternoon progressed so did the deer movement and right around 6:00 o’clock +/- I heard a grunt and that what caught my attention. I look down to my left in the shadows and there he was. The deer I passed a couple hours ago! I glassed him real quick with my binos and knew, “I’m killing him”. I threw up the little rifle with a 4x Diatal scope and squeezed the trigger. Bang, flop. The deer didn’t kick, wiggle, it’s tail never even flickered. I got down thinking, Tom’s gonna be pretty psyched. When I got to him, I first noticed how big his body was. He has a nice wide rack, but nothing crazy. I later realized I had him on camera earlier in the summer and he was my number 2 deer to kill! So I’m pretty stoked.
