Dave, I would agree with you if barrel twist rates were as consistant as the match grade bullets we are shooting out of them. Sadly they are not. If that Wby has an old krieger barrel on it from the factory it is cut rifled. Cut rifled barrels tend to be closer to the listed twist rate then a button rifled twist is. As such whenever I order a Lilja barrel, I always order 1" faster twist them I think I need. While they are close, they generally are 1/2 to 3/4" off in twist. This is not just Lilja barrels but all button rifled barrels on average. We still have not proven the 200 gr ULD is stabile in the 1-10 twist barrel but we will see soon. Testing over longer range will tell us what we need to know. I know Dick is on that task with the 1-10 twist 7mm Wby. I myself just finished up a batch of freshly fireformed 7mm Allen Mag test loads for testing in my 1-9 Shilen barrel. Started at 94.0 gr of WC872 and stopped at 104.0 gr I plan to set the chrono up at around 6:00 AM and see what we can get. Will probably shoot at 200 or 300 yards and see how they land on paper. My comments about the twist is because I have personally seen what was supposed to be a 1-9 twist 6mm barrel not shoot the 105 gr A-Max bullets in a 243 AI. On the other hand I have seen a 1-10 6mm barrel shoot the 107 gr SMKs in a 6mm-06 with great accuracy for a sporter rifle. Strange things happen in our sport. I like your comments about a 210-215 gr ULD, originally that was the plan with This bullets prototype, may yet become a reality, especially if I can top 3300 fps with a 200 gr ULD RBBT in the 7mm Allen Mag. Targets and testing will tell the tell!!! I will post results tomorrow! Kirby Allen(50)
