I don't think that anyone is trying to stop someone from buying one of these rifles at all. The price in relation to the quality of the parts is the issue as I see it. There are many items that are over priced, That people still buy because they can, not because it is better. I have seen/met gunsmiths that Overcharge for components by marking them up 40+%. It doesn't make the rifle any better, only more expensive. At some point the price is based on the name and not anymore quality so the post are just warning the uninformed that $14,000.00 is a bit to much and not a good value for the money spent. I did some price checking for components and without markup here is what I came up with for high quality parts. Actions = 1200.00 to 1500.00 dollars Barrels = 400.00 to 600.00 dollars Stocks = 600.00 to 1,000.00 dollars custom trigger = 200.00 to 350.00 dollars Adding custom loaded ammo 200.00 a box and gunsmith fees that are variable, the basic components would cost less than 3,450.00 before markup if all of the highest priced parts were used. And 2400.00+ for the average priced quality parts. So If a person wants to buy a product with this much markup, and knows the real value, good for him. If he wants to buy a truck for 90,000.00 that the base price of the truck is 35,000.00 dollars he will and does all the time. but he knows that it is not a good deal, just that he wants it. Firearms are the same, some are worth what is being ask and some are not. and as long as the buyer knows this, all is good. the perception that price dictates quality only goes so far. at some point it becomes overpriced and is no better than less expensive firearms. I can understand the frustrations of some members that know the real value of any firearm and see extreme markups on some knowing what the person is getting. In there defense, they are trying to protect the buyers by explaining the actual value and letting them make a educated decision, not telling them they should not buy it. (That doesn't work anyway). Just My opinion J E CUSTOM
