Friend of mine (not a member here) bought a CVA Scout 45-70 smokeless muzzleloader conversion from Hankins Precision. We think we have a load dialed in for it after shooting the other day but he wanted me to jump in here and ask if anyone else has one and what they have found for powder choices...

Here’s the 153 HHT over 54.5g H4350 in my 280ai, 24” proof barrel. Avg is 3027 ES: 5.2 SD: 2.2. I can do the same at 3010 with the 162’s over H4831sc

Got out today and shot my 180g Partition load, 64.0g H4350, both at book measurement and .020 off. My rifle did not like the .020 jump but this is what it shot after a 2 shot confirmation at 200 (bottom 2 shots) then an adjustment

Pictures above are with the 168 Hammer HHT out of a 24” barrel. First one is 64.0g H4350 second is max I attempted (no pressure) at 65.5g

That’s where we are going to start, 200g partition and I have some IMR 4831 but also going to try H4831sc since I have an abundance of that

I’ve got some 200g partitions coming as he is wanting to stay heavy on the pills. I suggested to since we are back at square 1 let’s try some lighter bullets but it’s gonna be tough with a 1:9 twist barrel as most 300WM are a 1:10 twist

I use ADG brass for mine, most of which are virgin cases at this point. But when I was using federal and Norma cases I would get a stiff bolt closing. Make absolutely sure the cases are within spec length wise and use a body die! I’ve notice with this cartridge and a 270 WSM that both chambers...

I’m running 59.7g of 4831SC with 162g Hammer HHT at 3009 fps at 1/2” or less out to 300 yards so far.
