    7mm-08 w/heavy bullets?

I've been shooting the 168s for a while. I was using 44-45grs (depending summer/winter) IMR4350 in Remington brass with a CCI200 primer .005" off lands and was getting around ~2650fps (24" Savage) with sub-MOA performance. Depending on your brass, I would start out around 41 grs with this...

    Load Development... Ladder Day Revelations???

Alright, I lack the experience of many on this board. I learned how to conduct a ladder test by more informed members. A ladder test, properly conducted, is an EXTREMELY efficient and accurate load development technique. I use it exclusively and usually find "the" load for my components in...

    Powder measuring

I have always and will always weigh every charge for precision rifle shooting, as long as I use and extruded powder. I used Lee plastic dippers for long time and trickled my loads up. I have recently (6 months ago) purchased a RCBS Uniflow powder measure and I am EXTREMELY happy with it. It sped...

    catshooter need your help

I may be biased due to a feline-abusive childhood, but cats are nearly worthless. In comparison to dogs, I have never had a cat help load an unruly horse into a trailer. I have never had a cat stop a loose cow from trampling me. I have never heard of a cat detracting a burglar. A well-trained...

    Federal Brass

I'm sorry, maybe I'm blind tonight... it is 1:30 here right now. I don't see federal brass anywhere in that poll?? I've never used federal brass in a magnum case. It was notably softer IN MY EXPERIENCE in .270 win and .30-06 and my flash holes were consistently inconsistent so I discontinued...

    Forming 25-06 from Lapua 30-06

I second .30-378 I don't have experience with the 25-06, but after necking .308 Lapua down to 7mm-08 I find that my necks are about as thick as my chamber will tolerate. I would be inclined to believe you may have to turn your case necks if going from .30-06 all the way to .25-06. I would use...

    Pretty neat pics...

Cool pics 25-06 I've always wondered about sheep hunting...kinda looks like you could hunt them with a KABar

SAVAGE Rifles - who uses them

When I started hunting I shunned the cheap look of the savage with it's straight, cheaply knurled bolt knob, crappy tupperware stock, and rediculous barrel nut. It took me 4 years to pull my head out and shoot a few. My target/varmint/tactical comp/GO TO rifle is now a savage. It SHOOTS, it's...

Ballistics beyond 2000 yds : do we need/trust them?

If I may interject, Catshooter I like and respect the majority of your posts. I do feel, however, Michael's intentions and your interpretations are slightly off-skewed. I don't feel, using the same barrel, that switching powder/primers yet arriving at the same muzzle velocity will yield...

Help, I want to get into long range hunting but don't know anything!!

Re: Help, I want to get into long range hunting but don\'t know anything!! Hillajam, you can always use the search function and look up the terms you don't fully understand yet. 1 MOA for the purposes of this discussion is basically 1" per 100 yards. As in, if your rifle can shoot 6" at 600...

    Nosler Custom Competition

The only thing I've shot with the 168 NCC besides paper was a pesky neighbor cat. I was astonished at the expansion of a 130 yard neck shot... it resemble a varmint bullet. This was out of a .308 @ ~2700fps. I fully agree with JDJones in that they seem to be rather thinner jacketed than Matchkings.

175g uld rbbt testing at 800 yards

25-06, 600-700 feet of Altitude is going to have a miniscule impact on Pressure which in turn will have a miniscule impact on your ballistics program. As I understand standard pressures at altitudes (I.E. what your ballistics program will use) 29.53" Hg mercury is the standard for sea level...

175g uld rbbt testing at 800 yards

Not to steal the post, but I was under the understanding that Altitude doesn't effect bullet flight in and of itself, the Barometric Pressure decreases as you increase altitude and that is what causes different impacts. If 25-06 was shooting @....say 2000' asl, the pressure standard on his...
