Reloading- What pressure signs do you stop at?

Hogdon recommends using new brass when using that method of pressure estimation. I started using it because I have a CVA break action rifle in .35 Whelen. There's no ejector for the brass to flow into. For a 30-06 type round they say a maximum load should produce .0005"-.0006" of case head...

Personal limits shooting off sticks standing

I've noticed that I practice using them while leaning against a tree, or resting the stick and my hand against something. By doing this at the gun club I can hold a group of about three inches at 100 yards. You can't always find that in the woods while walking, but it can work in your favor if...

High Quality 338 Win Mag Brass-Need Help!

There are a number of manufacturers who make .338 Win brass. Making it from .300 Win brass seems a little difficult. Winchester was a little late with the .300 Winchester. Norma necked the .338 Win down before Winchester did so they moved the shoulder forward by about .1" to make the .300...

    Remington 700 quality

I've had a Remington 700 ADL chambered in 30-06 since 1974. After a lot of rounds, both handloads and factory I had it rebarrelled and bought an after market stock from Stocky's. It was accurate in the original configuration. It generally seemed to shoot best with heavier bullets. I could put...

    Bullet seating depth?

Hi Leatherstocking, I've recently started useing collet type crimping die made by Lee Precision. They've worked very well for me. Even bullets loaded in .338 Win Mag don't move at all under recoil. For some reason RCBS resizeing dies in .30 caliber are tighter than other calibers. .243, .224...

    Bullet seating depth?

I know what you mean. I'll use a bullet that's in good shape to set my COL then measure it with the Hornady tool that measures the bullet at a datum line that is actually bore diameter and write that measurement down to use when I load that bullet again.

    Bullet seating depth?

I set seating depth by first seating a bullet of the type I am going to load so it's just far enough into a resized but unprimed and empty case that it doesn't fall out. I then take a cleaning rod with an extended drill stop on it and push the tip of the cleaning rod against the bolt or...
