    75 A-Max in a 9 Twist .223

I'd really like to get the Hornady 75 A-Max to shoot well in my 9 twist 223 (unaltered Rem 700 XCR, 26" bbl) but accuracy is always just lagging behind the 68 gr Hornady BTHP. I know I'm pushing my luck with a 9 twist and should be using a faster twist, but before I give up on that bullet I...

    Shot show report 2011

I'm on the way home from SHOT and checked the site to see what others saw so I could compare notes. I can't find a single report! My vote for one of the coolest gadgets is a Kestrel weather meter that incorporates a ballistic program (by HORUS), thus providing not only environmental data, but...

Trying to get into coyote hunting. . . sort of lost

If you're in an agricultural area, look for animal producers as places to hunt. It doesn't matter if it's chickens, pigs or cattle; when these animals are raised in quantity it will attract lots of coyotes. Around here, it's mostly cattle so I scout for coyotes by looking for cattle producers...

    Major runout problem.

The trick previously mentioned for seating bullets with less runout also works for neck runout. After sizing, rotate the case 180 degrees in the shellholder and resize again. Try that on a few cases and if it reduces runout at the neck it might be time to buy different dies. triggerpress

    Looking for a quiet rifle...Hornet...Fireball?

I've gone two routes to get something like what you're looking for. I started with a 223 and made up reduced loads for it. My load was (and is) 10 grains of Win 231 over a Sierra 40 grain Hornet bullet. I eventually added a 17 Ackley Hornet that uses 9.7 grains of LilGun over a 20 grain V-Max...

Thomson Centre Icon Rifle ..... opinions please

I have the stainless/synthetic in .243 Win and am very happy with it. Three shot groups run in the 2's and 3's while 5 shot groups are usually just over .5 inch. Good trigger, solid build and a novel safety that locks the bolt down when on-safe. The integral bases are nice too. Overall, they are...

    Cratered Primers?

Check the bolt face, especially in the area where the firing pin hole is. I've been told some of the newer Rem's have a chamfer cut into the firing pin hole. Of course, this would allow some primer material to flow back and look just like excessive pressure. I haven't seen this personally, so...

    Fx 3 ?

And, of course, you want to check to make sure that using an electronic caller is legal in your state or province. For example, they are illegal in Alberta for hunting purposes. You can use them for photography (which is probably what AlbertaAl is doing - if he's in Alberta) but you can't use...
