Want to get into reloading -- kit recommendations?

A little late here , but you might want to look into a Dillon BL550 , you can always upgrade that unit into a RL550.. Its kinda a single stage/progressive press 300 bucks for the press , manual indexing , and fully upgradable.. outstanding service , and a no bs. warranty. I do agree with the...

    270 ocw test

I've used a lot of different powders , over the years. I've found that in my wsm's that the alliant powders work the best.. That's just my personal findings.

    270 ocw test

Sorry for the delay on this. It actually took me a total of 82 loads to get to this. I'm right at red line in the Hornady book , but have no signs of over pressure. The first two shots were to foul the barrel.

    270 ocw test

go with what Jud said and like I said slowly change things. if you are limited on supplies , its probably not a good time to try this. stick with some factory loads until you can get enough supplies.. It took me close to 60 rnds to perfect a load for my tika 270wsm. and more for my 300wsm. I...

    270 ocw test

I would/do set my first loads at book COL. then slowly work towards the lands. to try and find the sweet spot. some bullets like a lot of jump some not so much. some guns like heavier bullets some not. keeping all things the same like powder , primers ect. and use a led sled. I have spent untold...

    Would you eat this bull?

Worked in a couple of slaughter houses over the years , as a maintenance mechanic , and worked closely with the inspectors / veterinarians (FDA) and saw many condemned animals over the years , One thing I always noticed was the , fat was yellow and the meat smelled. Even if the meat didn't smell...

Own a Tika 3 lite 270wsm , and just got back from the range today , clover leafed 3 shots at 100yrds with a load I'd worked up , love the gun , very impressed with it versatility. I'm sure you'll enjoy it for many years too come...

What am I doing wrong with sizing brass?

If you do run a crimp , I've found that the Lee factory crimp die works very well. Adjust your seat/crimp die so you only seat , then do the crimp separately. I ran into this before with my 300wsm. it was very slight , still chambered but wouldn't run through case gauge.

Are you crimping ? if so try no crimp. Sometimes too much crimp will deform the case causing this.

How do the factories load "universal" high performance cartridges??

Went to a Hornady reload class , a while back , when they had the "light mag" ammo. I asked what powder they used, as I wanted to purchase some for reloading , I was told by the rep. that its a proprietary blend , and wasn't available to the public...!
