I completely agree. 8x42 binoculars are just right for most needs. I have one pair of 10x that I have to steady myself with. Unless a tripod is being used I would not recommend binoculars over 10x. At that point I would rather have a decent spotting scope.

Have you tried contacting Nikon? You might also try a small online retailer to see if they can score them for you. I would stay away from the big box stores because they are less likely to be able to help/want to help.

I just opened up the Spot on software, and it does include the 17 winchester super mag, and offers a reading for the Nikon scopes.
