    Ideal scope for 300 wsm

Have you considered the NF compact 2.5-10x42? It is comparable in weight to the VX6 2-12. My next purchase will be a sako finnlight in 270wsm, the above scopes are what I have narrowed my search down to to top it with. My plan is to be able backpack heavy timber for sambar in Australia and also...

    6.5x47, RL-16, 143 ELD-X

My 6.5x47 is a R700 with 28" 8twist barrel. I have found my sweet spots with velocity at 2900fps/120gr NBT with 37.1gr 2208(varget) this shoots under .25" groups and down to .1 130gr Berger and 129grABLR shot nearly identically with 2208 36.5gr at 2810 both of these were around 0.4". The...

What functions can an iPhone perform in the wilderness?

Simple answer is yes, they have a gps chip which works very well, in Australia I use Gaia gps app with the iPhone 5 in aeroplane mode no problems in heavy timber, overcast and rainy weather in the Victorian Alps.

    G'day from NZ

Most of my hunting here is very similar, the 7mm are a great choice, I have recently acquired the sambar bug which has taking up all of my hunting time this year. I had a 6.5x47L built on a 700sa a couple of years back which I use for long range fallow, goats and pigs. Look up Ballistic Studies...

    Use a Tablet for gps?

I have an iPhone 5 and downloaded Gaia GPS. I used it for a week hunting in the Victorian high country with no cell signal, it was used in aeroplane mode with the location services turned on to save battery. It was very easy to use and pinpointed your location quicker than start up from being...

7mm Sherman Short Mag vs 300 Win mag

I just ran the 195 EOL at 2900fps on ballistic and it seems the data may be corrupted. It Also overtakes the 338 300gr elite hunter launched at 3000fps at 1400y?

    Tikka T3 Tac

I have a weatherby mark v trr in 308, very similar 22" barrel. I load 44.5gr varget with 168gr Berger VLD Hunting, lapua brass, br2 primer, 74mm OAL. This was my most accurate load, I did run up to 45.5 gr with no issue. I only shoot out to 400y with this rifle though. Most information I have...

    308win load help.

My rifle likes 44.5gr of varget(2208) with the 168 gr Berger VLD hunting lapua cases and br2 OAL 74mm. Personally I like to shoot 3 shot groups(always seem to get some pilot error with 5 shots) I started my loads at 42.5 and went to 45.5 at 0.5gr increments. Group size were 0.6 down to 0.2 and...

Long range hunting cartridge 6.5 or 7mm

6.5mm and 7mm are great calibre's for that size game, Australia is very similar, my long range rifles are 6.5x47, 7mm RM, 7mmWby and 308. If I could only choose 1 rifle it would be the 7mm rem as it so versatile and the availability of factory ammunition is a huge plus.

    7mm Rem Mag Loads

H1000(2217) is a very good powder for the heavy bullets, I am running 68.5gr with 180gr Bergers with my old 7mmRM BDL 24" barrel. It shot very well from 67-69.5 gr all very close to 1MOA, I settled with 68.5 as it was just under max according to the ADI reloading data and consistently 0.7-0.9MOA.

Need 6.5x284 load for Barnes 130gr TSX

The Rifle Section @ www.reloadersnest.com There is a lot of useful information on this site, however some loads seem very hot. Looks like you should get 3100fps with 130 gr loads.
