    Garmin xero

Thanks for the replies, that was my thought as well, trusting the Garmin over my PIA optical. As a side note a gust of wind blew one of the light shields off the chrono about 15 shots in, didn't want to stop the line to reset continued shooting with the Garmin, another reason why it's time...

Interesting article on bear spray vs. bear handgun defense

My hunting buddy and I took our families to Glacier National Park a few years ago and hiked over 70 miles in 5 days. We both open carried, he had a ruger 480 and I had a my blackhawk in 45 Colt loaded hot. We had bear spray as well. We had done our research and determined it was legal to...

    Garmin xero

Was at the range the other day and a fellow shooter saw me setting up my optical chrono and kindly offered to let me try his Garmin. He set it up for me in less than a minute and I started shooting. The Garmin worked great and never missed a shot. The optical was set up about 10 ft in front...

    Best Value 223/556 Barrel?

I went through a similar situation and decided on White Oak Armament after significant research, very happy I did. I purchased one of their standard barrels which I believe use Wilson blanks. Would highly recommend them, fit and finish was excellent, Quality factory loads are easily...

    What 224 to build

For the bullet weights you mention have you considered a 223 AI? Cheap and abundant brass, long barrel life, and non custom dies available. I had a similar project and went that route. Went with an 8 twist as I wanted to shoot 55g to 80g bullets. I load them long in a standard short action...

    Uni Throater on a 338

Proceed at your own peril. I rented one from 4d rentals for a bolt action 223 to seat bullets long. Measured multiple times used the the Horandy tool and in a matter on minutes had twice the free bore I wanted. After inspection with a bore scope, cut was not even across all lands even though I...

    Daily Emails

Love the site and daily emails, but I do not like the new format. The thread tittle is not listed & the forum group is listed twice. I would like to see the thread tittle listed in the emails as before as I find this much more engaging. I typically would review 2 to 3 threads from each...

    What do you think?

Great price for a progressive if you are mechanically inclined and willing to tinker and make adjustments on the fly they can be made to work. I owned one for about 4 years until I got tired of the constant adjustments, replacing plastic parts etc. Priming was the weakest link. I finally went...

Time to go up a notch

OP did not state his intended use other than Fun, so would second the 45-70 ^^^. Not my first choice for Long Range, but fun to shoot and 458 cal bullet moving at 2000 fps + hits hard. If you have the brass should be able to reload for under a $1 a round.

    Best Rings Under $100?

I'm a big fan of Warne rings. They have several flavors to suit your needs. l've used the Maxima & Maxima Horizontal line. They are made of steel so not the lightest, but strong and durable.

    6.5 PRC Discussion

I'd try a different bullet, my 6.5x284 does not like the 143 ELDX, best I can get is about .75moa, burger 140 hybrids shoot .25 MOA. In my case I believe it's the longer bearing surface as I can't keep the pressure ring out of the should neck junction with the 143's. For speed go with RL 26.
