Where to start putting in for tags?

Not to be negative about the whole thing but you would be so far behind in all states with points. Idaho has no points system, probably your best chance, Nevada you statistically have a chance to draw a hunt with no points but your odds will be really bad. Look for states that give random draw...

    Left eye dominate ?

I am right hand left eye, figured it out at around 8-10 years old from shotgun shooting instructor. Started shooting lefty then with right handed guns, gas operates semi auto shotguns are a problem with the gas blowback in my face, bolt rifles are fine. When I got older and could afford my own...

Colorado Elk Hunt Sitka or Kuiu or First Lite

I have a lot of Sitka gear, only because a relative used to work for them and got a lot of it for dam near free. It’s pretty nice stuff but I don’t think I would ever have bought it for retail. That said I prefer first lite base layers, which I also wait to go on sale every year around the...

    Rifle Scope Recommendations

I really like my bushnell lrh’s and I had a few buddies that got them from gap when they were on sale, don’t know if that sale is still on but it would be worth a phone call to see.

    Pack selection

My vote is exo. Very comfortable, packs weight great and compresses down when you don’t need the space.

    Trouble with Manners stocks

I have 6 Manners stocks and have never had an issue with customer service. As far as stocks being completed on time that’s a different story but I’m a patient guy and I really like there stocks.

    Best scope rings

ARC’s are the best! So easy to mount a scope and no worry of crushing the tube. Nightforce, seekins, and badger are all nice too.

    30 nosler build

I think 3b/5 contour with a lightweight stock is the perfect weight hunting rifle. I have multiple builds with 3b/5 and manners eh1’s. I’m currently building 2 guns for friends with the same setup. I would avoid the flutes unless you go with the rem varmint. I had a 6.5x284 with a rem varmint...

    Your 6.5 saum loads

57.8 Rl26, fed 210m, 140eldM, Norma brass. 3125 26” bartlein. Shoots bug holes. Could never get h1000 to work in this one, switched to rl26 and it was minty. Killed my Nevada elk with this setup, 1 shot.

Mountain rifle - build or buy?

I would just get a tikka. I’ve never seen the appeal for spending thousands on a super light rifle. Light rifles are just not as easy to shoot long range, especially in big magnums. But maybe that’s just me. You could also upgrade the tikka later if you wanted to customize. I don’t have any...

    Help choosing a caliber

I’ve killed multiple mule deer and blacktail with 6x47 Lapua, pretty much a 243. But if I were you I’d get a 6.5. I also own a 7 rem mag and if using equivalent quality brass and bullets it is definitely cheaper to load for the 6.5. Less powder, cheaper bullets, and longer brass life.

Time to buy. High(ish) dollar scopes?

Sound like you already know what you want. I’ve shot behind kahles, s&b, night force, and personally own a razor gen 2, I think they are all fine scopes. If you know what you want just buy it. Curious what “went bad in the vortex” mid match?

    Gunsmith in Western WY/Southern ID

Evan at Performance rifles in Rexburg build me a great shooting 6x47 some years back.

    Nevada first elk hunt

Spent a few days before the season scouting and oddly was seeing very few 6 points and many large 5’s. Spoke with a few local outfitters and cowboys who run cattle in the area and they told us they noticed the same thing this year, a lot of just really large 5’s, their thought was that it was...

BDL vs DBM in a mountain rifle

Short actions I prefer dbm, long actions bdl. Dbm is very handy when hunting in certain states such as Colorado when laws require gun to be in a case and unloaded when on an atv. If you need to make a quick shot pull gun out of case, install mag, and your ready to roll.
