Ok the unit has been decided in CO!!!

Hi Steve, I have hunted with some friends in unit 751 for the last two years. I don't have any experience in the area of the unit you are talking about, as we hunt down in the San Juan NF close to Hwy 160. We have always seen elk, and have taken 2 each of the seasons we have hunted. Our...

    .223 for deer?

I have shot a lot of deer with the .223. The first big surprise I found was that with most of my loads there was no exit hole!! I found that I had to slow the projectiles down in order to get a exit hole. But then you lose the "flat" trajectory. I like a through and through shot, if...

300 wsm vs 308 or other

Looks like you have gotten excellant advice so far!! Thought I would throw out my experiences and maybe they would help you along as well. I shoot .308 and 300WSM rifles almost exclusively. I don't have the budget nor do I see the open country to use anything "bigger". I admire those...

"No Lead" bullet requirement for my hunt

Re: \"No Lead\" bullet requirement for my hunt Just to add my .02 here. The Barnes Triple shock are the way to go!! Just be aware they are sensitive to the distance they are loaded off the rifling. With a Stoney Point OAL indicator, you can find the distance that is accurate in your rifle...

    300WSM bullet and load

I have not used the Accubonds. I have used the 150 gn SST for some load development and used the Barnes 150gn triple shock for my hunting.....the Barnes holds up well, is pin point accurate....just expensive. Dropped a 125lb pig at 85 yards and a cow elk at 675 yards. If you do not have a...

Jim Zumbo's article against Long Range Hunting

Re: Jim Zumbo\'s article against Long Range Hunting Well, lets see.......this guy's opinion is widely spread via both writing and video. He states in one blog that he is for the BANNING of certain types of firearms (assault weapons) because using them, is not hunting. Then he states long...

Jim Zumbo's article against Long Range Hunting

Jim Zumbo\'s article against Long Range Hunting I was referred to Outdoor Life's web page where Jim Zumbo has several basically antigun blogs posted. Here is what is has to say on Long Range Hunting: Long range shooting While at the SHOT Show recently, I ran into a guy who complained that too...

    SOLD/EXPIRED Hunt swap.....swap Hunts!!

Hmm, saw the thread and just have to ask, Splatt are ya two timing me??? As this is a unsolicited comment, Splatt is/was a wonderful host/guide/friend. He made it possible for a dream of mine to come true. The altitude will kick your butt, so get some work outs, but even with them, the...

    Loading Barnes Triple Shock

[ QUOTE ] I've always done that with every bullet I've loaded. As far as distance from the lands I've got a factory bbl on my rifle so I just load it to as long as it will reliably load into the magazine. I can touch the lands with the bullet about 1/10" into the case so I'm pretty far...

    Loading Barnes Triple Shock

I have found the Triple shock to be very accurate and had no problems loading it for both 300wsm and 308. They do perform better with a "jump" to the lands and grooves.
