Successful elk hunt in Wyoming 2023

I booked a hunt last year after reading about Swift Creek Outfitters on this forum. A few members spoke positively of the outfitter, so I did more research and could not find any info that was not positive. So I booked for this year. Well, I can attest, it was well worth it. There were seven...

My first moose was a nice one.

I shot my first moose in Wyoming a few years ago. Congrats. That’s was way better than mine. In fact, I think going to Canada may be the better option than how I did it. I am hoping I have one more moose hunt in my life.

Wyoming Mulie, My best to date

Wish I could buy some 6.5 PRC ammo and/or reloading supplies for it. Only have less than two boxes left of it.

Wyoming Mulie, My best to date

My gunsmith finally finished my 6.5 PRC on my lightweight backpacking rifle about a month ago and this is my first kill with it. 337 yard downhill shot with about 30 mph winds. One shot and he went about 15 yards. Got this in SW Wyoming and it is my personal best. I used the hornandy 4dof...

SOLD/EXPIRED Leupold Mark 4 LR/T 3.5-10x40mm Matte, Illum. reticle, TMR for sale. $600 TYD OBO.

I bought this scope in Dec of 2012 and put it on a rifle that sat in my gun safe for over ten years. I literally only sited the rifle in once and never used it again. I paid over $1,200 for it and am willing to sell it for $600 TYD or best offer. I even still own the box that it came in. It...

    6.8 Western

You nailed it. A few years ago I was having dinner with a well known respected guide in Wyoming. I asked him, with your 50 years of guiding western big game, what do you use for hunting? He told me he only shoots two cartridges. They were the 30-06 and the 270. I own more rifles and...

    6.8 Western

My thoughts exactly. Ammo and reloading supplies are very difficult to find at these times. I recently jumped on the bandwagon and had a 6.5 PRC built for me and over the last six months I have been trying to build up my supply of ammo for it. I think I only have six boxes. I did find more...

    Bought a .270 Today

My first deer rifle was a post 64 in .270. That was in the early 80s. All the hunters I looked up to recommended it. 40 plus years later, with more hunting experience and funds for a multitude of guns, I find myself grabbing a custom M70 in .270 more than any other cartridge. Literally...

    What's your favorite hunting bow?

I was one of those guys that bought a new Hoyt every two - three years. I have owned several, but when looking back, I don't really believe the technology has really progressed much over the last 10 or so years. I think they have gotten lighter and have less vibrations but other than that...

    Berger bullet tissue damage

Shot a bull moose with .270 win using 140 gr Berger VLDH at about 75 yards. Broadside, four accurate shots behind the shoulder. I shoot them till they drop. It took four steps and fell. 4 entry wounds and not one exit wound. Lungs looked like they had gone through a blender. Dead is dead...

Starting out a young shooter, who's left eye dominant. Got questions..

I am greatly indebted for all of you taking the time to responding to this post. You have all offered some great tips and points that I had not considered. I grew up in rural CA, the eastern sierra mountains, and my father was a three tours of combat Vietnam Vet who was a gun nut. We shot...

Starting out a young shooter, who's left eye dominant. Got questions..

Thank you sir. My son is right handed but left eye dominant. I will have to do some more experimenting with him to determine his preference.

Starting out a young shooter, who's left eye dominant. Got questions..

Thank you sir. It took me decades to learn about such a thing as left eye dominance. I never heard of it until I became a firearms instructor and went to range master school for my department and that was well into my 30s. I never thought about it for hitting a base ball. Thanks again.

    Moose bullets?

I do not claim to be an expert, because I have only one bull moose kill under my belt and that was last year. I was using a .270win with 140 gr Berger VLDH bullet. My shot was only at about 75 yards and I put four well placed, rapid shots behind the shoulder. My philosophy, since I have...
