I said that I thought Alliant 1200-R had been discontinued, but that is apparently not true. I called them today to check and they said that they are still making it.
I can't seem to find any in stock, though. Its burn rate is similar to 10x (actually a touch faster), but you can fit more in...
Does anyone have any powder recommendations for the lighter bullets?
The load data shows they used 1680. I have some CFE BLK that might be close.
I was thinking of ordering some 1680, SW blackout, and when I can find it, H4198.
MidwayUSA has reloder 10x last time I looked. 1200R is discontinued, I think.
With 10x and 270gr speers. I am not quite getting the velocities in the data you just posted. This could be due to me having a new barrel. I have heard a barrel can "speed up", after 100rds or so.
I will be...
That sounds fine to me. Those guys would know way more than I would. I was trying out the expander this morning and it's alot smoother and gentler than just using the FL die on the 358 brass.
I think I will change my steps to first go through the expander die then into the FL die. It's...
I was playing around with the dies. And I think the issue with the lee die was tolerance stacking and some user error.
Of my two shellholders there is a .001 difference.
I also screwed the die in bit to make sure I was getting enough force when it would cam over.
Messing around with that...
I have both Lee and CH4D dies.
The lee die doesn't seem to form the shoulder back far enough when I check it with my case gauge. Like maybe 1 or 2 thousandth short. This could be tolerance stacking or something. I need to try a different shell holder.
Anyway, my main die is the CH4D...
It sounds like there might be some raptor brass in the works (without buying 5000 cases). Hopefully in quantities of 100 or so.
I should know more soon.
Speaking of 358 win brass, I was converting some last night, and it's pretty easy. I need a little chop saw to make trimming go faster.
I'm not a gunsmith, but I suppose the chamber could be moved forward a bit. You would have to cut some more threads and shorten the back of the new chamber.
That would be a question for your gunsmith, I guess.
You may already know this, but 358 win brass can be used to form brass. Through...
There is some support for the Raptor out there.
I am not sure whats going on with Omega rifles; however, Paul at Maker Bullets looks to be on board with the raptor. He has a couple of bullets made just for it.
TNT munitions has been making some loaded ammo. (I wish they loaded the rounds a...
Not sure how the partition compares, but the load data from the raptor website (when it was working) shows the 300gr SGK being shot with a max velocity of 2250fps out of a 20" barrel.
With longer bullets in these big bore short actions, usually it's cartridge OAL that makes you seat the bullet deep.
I feel mono metals have more potential in the Raptor. The lighter weight helps you drive them faster.
190 maker, 230 Plainsmaster, 270 Speer
I would assume the 375/08 case/neck is a little longer in some way.
The Raptor is designed to use subsonic as well. So it's a little shorter. The case I have been playing with seems to hold onto bullets pretty good. The case neck on the 375 ruger is not too much longer than the raptor. I...
