Old Dog_New at Hunting Varmints on Purpose

I had a funny experience last fall out in the fields where I squirrel and coyote hunt. I am new at coyote hunting but have hunted a lot of everything else. Just not coyotes...on purpose. I have accumulated many types of mouth type calls for hunting various game. I will probably try some...

    What Is Your Age?

Thanks. I do know one thing, those mountains are at least 1" lower than when I was younger. That is encouragement in itself. Maybe if i wait a bit longer they will shrink some more. What ya think? had to sell my Marlin and I do not really miss it. I think this Mossberg and I will be getitn...

Do you plan to buy a new custom rifle?

No wife or girlfriend to say no...to a custom gun. Or otherwise. I just do not need to buy a custom gun. (Unless of course it is a 12 or 20 ga 5 shot lever action with a 26" bbl and a Poly Choke 2.)

What system, MOA or Mil, do you use?

I have both types and use the MOA the most. I live in Iowa and more than 1-200 yards is the norm. I just set up for a 200 yd max shot and aim on center, depending on wind speed and direction. + marks the spot...or very close to it for me.

    What Is Your Age?

I just turned 65 in February 2016. To celebrate I bought a Mossberg 464 (pistol gripped model) 3030 rifle, Kwik Site Mount and Rings, a Simmons 4-12x44 mm scope and a few other essentials. I found that I needed to hold my head way up to see through the scope, or add a cheek piece. I had a...

    electronic powder dispenser/scale

I have heard of using a drop tube to settle the grains better inside the case. I may try that. Thanks for the tip.

    Dented Case Shoulders

My bet is too much lube on the shoulder and a mechanical dent on the side of the case. Maybe it hit something when it was ejected or was dropped and stepped on and damaged during the resizing process. How bad is the dent on the side of the case? If it is deep and has some kind of deep scratch...

    electronic powder dispenser/scale

I have a Lyman Gen 5. It is accurate to .1 grain. Accurate enough for my use. It has a nice readout screen, and I especially like the auto rerun. Punch in Rerun, then type the numbers in one time and hit enter, and vi`ola it starts to dump the next charge as soon as you set the little tray down...

    lee press

Lee presses are all I use. I have been using my turret press for almost 10 years and it still works great. I also have a Challenger single stage and a smaller Lee single stage. All work well. Why spend more money when you are mostly just paying for the name? Lee is always my first choice.

    Question. . . .44 or .45 cal. bullets ? ? ?

Use the right sabot for whatever bullet you use. I think the .44 conicals are .429 and the 45s are 451-452, and I know there are 454s to 457s. I use MMP sabots and also Harvesters. Select the size/color coded sabot for the bullet you want to use and go from there. Neither one is better than the...

can a loaded round be resized?

You make my point. If you have a Wylde, 5.56 and .223 will shoot in your barrel. I do not think you want to rechamber down to 5.56...even if you can.

can a loaded round be resized?

I was under the impression that the Wylde is the universal one, so to speak, and handled all 3 loads.

    Mossberg mvp 204

I just got a MVP Varmint 5.56. It is possibly the best shooter I have bought to date. At least it is making me look like I can shoot. MVP is a winner in my book.

    Neck Crimping Advice

Check out a Lee Factory Crimp die. I use them on my .308 and .223. Not sure if the 7.62x54 Mosin has a Factory Crimp die but I think it does. I haven't loaded any of them yet so I am just guessing. Lee states the Factory Crimp Dies are tough enough to crimp properly even if the bullet does not...
