Need help with consistent seating depth using seating die

As soon as I got into long range shooting, the first thing I did was to buy a good Mitutoyo caliper and i-Gaging Micrometer - if you can't measure anything accurately, you'll be making decisions based on bad data. But, using the Mitutoya caliper and the Hornady Comparator, I still got...

Need help with consistent seating depth using seating die

I do the same "1/3 turn" for seating PLUS adjust runout using the Hornady tool to adjust to less than 0.002 runout. But, with the 120 gr Noslet BTs (loaded in my 7-30 waters for a TC Contender), I found the bullet itself (using the Hornady comparator) to have variability. Additionally, as...

    Thermal scopes

If you are hunting in wide open fields (so no reflectivity from an IR light off plants or other objects), with a good IR light, the clarity of an IR NV scope is much better resolution than even the most expensive thermal scope. However, in brush or tall grass where there will be reflectivity...

    Recommend a powder scale?

I just went to the site and it said I would get an extra 10% discount on orders over $49.00 if I signed up with an email address. If true, that's only $44 and some change.

    Encore pistol with 30-06 barrel.

That was my first load attempt: Fed 210M, Winchester brass, 38.5 gr 748, 120 gr Nosler BT, right at 2400 fps and about 1.25" groups with 6x scope @ 100 yds. I could have probably done better with a higher magnification scope. What load worked well for you and group size? Any problems with the...

    Encore pistol with 30-06 barrel.

I've got some RL 15 - but have not used it. What primers and powder weight worked for your gun?

    Encore pistol with 30-06 barrel.

I have a 7-30 Super 14 that I am just working up loads for. What were your favorite loads? I got some old Sierra 130 gr SP "Single Shot Pistol" bullets with the purchase, which were supposedly a great bullet for the gun, but those have been discontinued. I have some 120 Nosler BTs and Hornady...

I’m gonna try to hunt Racoons!

It's illegal in NC - if you catch them in a trap, you have to dispatch them.

First time at the range with my reloads - no one died

Also, keep in mind what your goals are for each load and gun. You mention that you are looking for a "hunting load", so a goal of 1-1.5 MOA is a reasonable one for the 30-06 if you are going to be keeping your hunting range below 400 yards. It's easy to get carried away with all the tricks and...

First time at the range with my reloads - no one died

Second on the H4350 for 30-06. Also, try Fed 210 or Gold Medal 210M primers instead of the WLR. I have had much better results with the Federal primers over the Winchester in my 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor.

    Gempro 250

My Gempro still works fine, although I quit using it. I went back to using my RCBS 505 scale with a magnifying glass in place to be able to align the "balance" lines more exactly. I have to be careful of any air currents in the room moving the balance beam, but I find the precision to be nearly...

How to know what powder is used in a manufactured cartridge

When I noted that one box of 6.5 Grendel Hornady "Custom" had silver colored primers and another had brass colored primers, I contacted Hornady. The technician told me that they also change primers "as needed" to keep production rolling as long as it meets their internal specifications for...

Opinions on a good straight up hunting optic for $500-$700 dollars

There was a nice write-up on them in the March American Hunter magazine. They have a 2.5-15X, 4.5-17X and 3-18X 30mm tube diameter. MSRP $549.95

    Stainless Pin Tumbling "too clean"?

Additionally I use the Frankfort Arsenal Media Transfer Magnet to aid in clean up of the pins, which seem to scatter here and there in my work area.

    Magneto or labrador

I bought the 90 degree cable prior to my call to Labradar - another straight mini-USB cable did the trick and I never used the 90 degree one.
