    OCW & Ladder Test?

I think the idea behind the OCW method is to find a load that will be reasonably well behaved over a wide range of conditions. If your current load does what you want it to, under the conditions you want it done in, then there is no reason to go srewing around with your load. Rick

Newcon LRB 7X40 3000 Pro Initial Impressions:

Thanks for the review, very interesting. I look forward to reading more about the Newcons. I find my ground hog shooting limited by my ability to range a 'hog standing in the middle of a fairly flat fied. Maybe these are the answer? Rick

    Portable benches

I bought a surveyor's tripod and 5/8" nut at Home Depot. I epoxied the nut into the bottom of the benchtop that I had been clamping into my workmate. This tripod is a bit different. It looks like a big, heavy-duty camera tripod with half-size survey-type legs attached to a center elevation...

    Portable benches

I feel your pain there Wildcat. I would already have a BR Pivot if it didn't cost so much. I was telling my g-hog shootin' buddy last night that its a lot more fun spending money on guns than support gear, but sometimes you gotta do it. Thanks for the links, TAC, I'll check those out...

    Portable benches

Any recommendations or warnings on selecting a portable bench? I am looking at the BR Pivot and Coyote Jake models, but am open to ideas. Thanks, Rick

    Leupold RB800 Bino/rangefinder

My ground hog partner has a set. They are just OK. They won't range 'hogs much past 450 yards under the best of conditions. Rick

How do you carry a heavy cannon?

You could get a drag-bag and wear it instead of the ruck. Rick

    MRX Bullets

Reading the article on the XP3 reminded me of the question one of the Sierra tech's is fond of asking callers: "At what point in the animal's death did the bullet fail?" Rick

    NEW tactical MOA reticle

I don't like having the thickened area on the bottom portion of the vertical crosshair. I would want to use the reticle for LR varmints and I would worry that it would cover too much critter at longer ranges. Rick

    Shooting Technique -- horizontal stringing

I remember shooting a 6-round group with my 308 several years ago. On three of the shots I saw the reticle track straight back toward me,on the other three, the rife torqued and the scope went black. I got two distinct groups, each about .3 MOA but nearly an inch apart, all horizontal. A 308...

    Rangefinder Spotting Scope Combo

Glad to hear it. I plan to try the same thing, only with a an aluminum base plate on a tripod. I have a Leupold compact 25x with a mil-dot reticle. I am going to mount my Bushnell Elite 1500 next to it and see if I can "regulate" them well enough to aim the laser with the scope. Rick

    Mounting an anti-cant bubble level

I think I understand what he is desribing. If, when you elevate or depress the muzzle, the level does not rotate around its longitudinal axis, you will induce cant in the level, which if you try to "correct" induces cant in the rifle. Hey, maybe you could just mark on the level how much a...

    range finders

I would like to see something like the Swaro in a variable-power spotting scope (say, 15-30 or there abouts)with a 1/8 MOA dot and some way to "zero" it. But that's just me. Rick
