Why the 338-378 Weatherby is my favorite long range Rifle

Indeed... My favorite and was the .378 with factory muzzle brake too. It is also very accurate, shooting sub-minute groups. This is an old 100 yard target from the 90's when Barnes first changed to the current TSX from their crappy monolithic bullet. I don't shoot the .378 much today, but there...

Why the 338-378 Weatherby is my favorite long range Rifle

Kinda nice to read about the love for Weatherby again. 😊 😊 I have 4 of them in different calibers from .240 to .378. When I was younger, I've hunted all over the western states with the .378 and taken many elk, bear and deer and even sheep. I got a lot of weird looks from fellow hunters, lol...

    Larry Willis collet die

I bought one for my .340 Wby Mag several years ago and have used it ever since. Works perfectly!

    Beautiful Idaho

Our elk population has diminished drastically over the last few years. My last big hunt effort was 3 years ago hunting Black Mountain and the lake areas. <y wife and I hoping to take an elk to supplement our wild game table fare. But we saw NO tracks, no trails or rubs or scrapes, only the...

    Africa 2023

Thank you for that. I'll be sure to relay my age and physical condition to the PH so he can make appropriate arrangements.

    Africa 2023

I looked up some of those recommended African trips. Some are very expensive and some are very reasonable. I've decided to talk my wife into going as a non-hunting guest, so we'll be looking thing over in the next few months. I figure on communicating with the PH to see how a septuagenarian...

    Africa 2023

Wow, I've dreamed about hunting in Africa for 60+ years and still have never done so. Congratulations on your hunt...I'm very envious.

What is your recoil threshold poll?

I gave my custom saltwater rods and reels to my kids who live in So Cal over 20 years ago. I have not use for them up here in North Central Idaho, except a Shimano TLD-5 for Salmon and Steelhead (they don't make them anymore). I have some bait casters and spinners for bass and trout fishing. I...

What is your recoil threshold poll?

My 2-speed Shimano Triton series Big Game saltwater reels are just as good or better than Penn Internationals. Instead of recoil, they provide a lot of reverse recoil...pull-coil. lol, we missed this subject completely...

What is your recoil threshold poll?

Recoil threshold...it can also be translated into the aftermath of conflicts, how the winner responds. The problem today is that nobody drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

What is your recoil threshold poll?

Likewise as we are the same age. I'm turning 73 in July and still love to shoot my factory muzzle-braked .340 and .378 Wby mags. Also the .50 Beowulf with 18" bbl. I have a 3-burst lower I use on it for fun shooting. I reload 400gr Sierra for bear hunting. Thumper...

What is your recoil threshold poll?

I'm lucky because I'll never get scope-eyed from my muzzleloader only because here in Idaho and the Pacific Northwest, scopes are not legal during muzzleloader season. (Neither are pellets or 209 primers). Nevertheless, a but a bit too much Triple 777 powder and mine will kick my butt!

What is your recoil threshold poll?

Well, I'm not a doctor so I don't know. I would imagine though, that if the heart stopped, a good recoil punch might get it going again? 😊 😊
