Savage 111 LRH 6.5-284 Loading Questions

Guys, I have some observations, possible misinterpretations, and questions regarding Ladder testing vs OCW. Yes, this has been discussed in great detain in other threads, just looking for quick opinions as it applies to this particular precision loading thread for the 6.5 I'd also like...

Thanks Nimrodmar! Just to let others know, Cabelas has Retumbo in stock right now. I ordered some today, and they have free shipping (still a hazmat fee) for the rest of today at least. Happy to have found some Retumbo!

Savage 111 LRH 6.5-284 Loading Questions

Not sure if you meant the question for tbrice or myself, but for me the answer was simple... I had picked up some of the Hornady bullets before finding this forum. It will be interesting to see if they perform, but if not, time to change-up! I do like the potential of the 123 AMax. .510 BC...

Savage 111 LRH 6.5-284 Loading Questions

Well, you all have me rethinking the 4350... I think the plan may shift to using the 4350 (have two containers) for initial break in, and first pressure testing. Then keep looking for some Retumbo or 1000 to work on final load development for hunting. This is my first "wildcat"...

Savage 111 LRH 6.5-284 Loading Questions

Thanks Joe! My initial thought was to go with Retumbo, but can't seem to find any near here to try out. Looks like Superformance should fall close to Retumbo for speed though. I have the initial cartridges loaded up for pressure testing on the 4350, thinking about making up some...

Savage 111 LRH 6.5-284 Loading Questions

Thanks Sarge! I'm hoping to land somewhere around 3100 fps with the 123s. In all your research, does this seem reasonable for the LRH? Thanks!

JoeS, What loads did you use on the 140 AMAX? Hornady load data calls for other powders with the heavier bullets (4831, VN165, etc.) and for the IMR 4350 etc with the lighter bullets. Hoping to learn from others! It has certainly been made clear to me that I have a lot to learn... ! :)

Savage LRH in 6.5-284 Burris 3-15 veracity Have Norma and Lapua brass, but until reading all the previous posts, had not planned to pre-process. Now, I'm thinking to turn the necks and check all for consistency. I guess it won't matter so much for the pressure testing? But for any...
