I had to drive 100 miles 1 way for powder, then they would only sell me 2 lbs. That's only 140 rounds for my load.

So I'll be reloading my first 20 rounds of my .338 LM this weekend. I'm starting out using US 869 powder, Winchester Large Rifle Primers and Sierra 250gr HPBT Match bullets. My main question is I'll be loading the starting powder at 101 gr. At what point do I/should I increase the powder...

If it were me, I'd be conservative and start with the lowest of the two and go with 4.4. What does Hodgon say? Maybe good to get a 3rd reference.

But on that note most kits come with their own reloading manual so you'll end up with two if you buy one ahead of time. There are basic things you need to start with no matter what brand you pick like a press, dies, primer tool, scale. Other things are nice to have but can be done other ways...

I won't even open the digital scale that came with my Lyman kit I just bought.

I'm just getting into it as well, and I picked up the Lyman kit. I added a trimmer, balanced scale, trickler and the rest was included (I didn't want the digital scale that came with it, maybe I'll sell it for $90 on ebay).

I can't believe the prices of the .338 ammo. My buddy recommended the .338 to me after shooting 357 revolvers for the last 25 yrs, and I didn't even think to price the ammo first. So here I am at the shop, getting my rifle ordered, rings and scope. Got it all paid for then I'm like, hey do...

I purchased the exact same setup as well, I'll be picking it up Friday. I have both Hordany 250 and 285 rounds to fire with it, to see which performs the best.

I'm looking for other people that shoot in the Nor Cal area. I've found a couple of decent ranges and wondering of there are others here that go there. Chabot Gun Club looks like a decent range with up to 200 yrd. Livermore Rod and Gun Club is good for up to 100 yrd Sacramento looks really...

Any recommendations on the round grain? I'm thinking 250, or do I need to just try some and see what works best?

Found this, hope it's decent ammo Hornady® Rifle .338 Lapua 285 Grain BTHP Match 20 rounds (Product: WX2-199574)

So I decided to pick up a Savage 110 FCP .338 Lapua today. What brand ammo can I go with if I don't want to dish out $140 for 20 rounds by Remmington? I'm just doing target shooting, no hunting, 500-1000 yrds. Thanks for any advice you can offer.
