    Looking for a versatile cartridge

Update, I went for a Tikka T3X 7mm08. Couldn't get the Stainless Model though, not available. It's equipped with a Vixen 2.5-15x50. It shoots 1 hole groups of 3 bullets at 100 yards with hornady superformance sst 139 gr. In the target picture most of the impacts are from core-locts ans...

A pic of the young deer I "killed" this monday. He got caught in my hog trap and strangled himself in it...

Seems like the post has disappeared, but I'll go with the tikka. There is only 1 x-bolt in stock at the shop, and it's a discontinued model, so if it happens to have a factory defect, I'm screwed. Plus the stock is solid wood, and I've had issues with those here, everything "solid wood" (rifle...

    Looking for a versatile cartridge

Hi there. So today I went to the 5 armories of pour "capital city" to do some research (I mainly looked at 7mm-08because I thought the rest would be easy to find). Here is what I got : - ammo availability : 7-08 and .308 have pretty much the same (federal classic, fusion and premium, hornady...

    Looking for a versatile cartridge

Well, last Time I went to an armory to buy ammo (about a month ago), i didn't see a single rifle in that Caliber on the shelves. That's the reason I ruled it out at first.

That's a lot of answers ! Thanks for your Time everyone. Seems that I'll have to seriously look at ammo availability and diversity. .270 is the most used here, 7-08 and 308 are also consistently available, it's just that the choice won't be as broad. I haven't looked at the other cartridges...

Yes, the "going through a big pig at close range" criteria is what made me rule out the .243 at first. High velocity small projectiles have almost failed me big time in the past, I don't want to go through that again.

Thanks for the input. Both my shoulders got dislocated during rugby games. Hence the need of soft recoil. 30-06 would hit too hard, that's why I didn't consider it in the first place.

Thanks for the welcome. The CZ is a nice rifle, but the solid wooden stock surfers from the weather, especially humidity. I need to have the action bedded on it. Here is a couple pics showing the kind of game we have here.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I live in New Caledonia, the only places you Can but ammunition here is armories, and you Can count them on the fingers of one hand. So By "availability" I mostly mean how much different Factory ammo i Can find to get one the rifle will like and shoot accurately...

Thanks for the reply. 6.5 Creedmor isn't good because of the ammo availability criteria (most common here is 243, 270 and 7RM, then you have 308, 22-250, 7mm08 and 300wm, anything else Can be considered an exotic cartridge and will be really hard to find).

    Looking for a versatile cartridge

Hello there. To sum it up, I'm willing to replace my 22-250. 75% of the use or the rifle will be shooting at deer, at distances comprised between 80 and 150 yds. The rest will be shooting deer at 250-300yds, and hogs in the Woods at less than 50yds. The 22-250 is nice for the first 75% because...
