    First NRL Hunter match

Lots of people including myself used BDL’s before DBM’s were a thing, and lots of us evolved. Sounds like you haven’t even tried them to know better. Thanks for confirming it’s just your stubbornness I guess.

    NEVER should've done it

Seriously, lots of people are doing it. TSS is a game changer. You can pretty much buy a Mossberg SA28 tactical turkey, an Indian creek choke, a red dot, and TSS and you’ve got a 70 yard turkey killer. The ammo is expensive at $10/shot but when you think about it you should be able to get...

    Revic or Leica 3200 ?

I have owned plenty of both and can certainly tell the difference between the two, especially on the edge. My EL Range TA’s give me data way beyond 800 yards, the furthest used them was 1200 and it gave me dope. So I’m not sure where you’re getting that, seems to me you really don’t know what...

    NEVER should've done it

If you think that’s impressive go look at some of the patterning tests with the 28ga apex and 60-70 yards. Lots of hardcore turkey hunters are migrating to 28’s because of the tungsten. There’s no reason to get the **** knocked out of you with 3.5” 12ga magnums anymore for turkey hunting.

    Revic or Leica 3200 ?

I was less than impressed with the Leicas and the Revics are expensive for being basically Chinese (Myanmar) so I wouldn’t even entertain them. I also don’t care for the company and those who are involved with it. I’ve got the EL Range TA’s and love them but I prioritize glass and ballistics...

Hybrid LR Hunting/ Match Rifle Project

You can get a McMillan game warden mcwoody if you want a light stock with a wood look and it will weigh half of the foundation. A 24” Bartlein CF M24 finished out should be 3.25-3.5lbs, that’s a heavy barrel by backcountry rifle standards. You can get a 24” 3B with deep spiral flutes down to...

Hybrid LR Hunting/ Match Rifle Project

A foundation is a terrible choice for a back country hunting rifle. The revelation is like 4lbs alone with no bottom metal. You’re going to end up with a 12lbs + rifle setup that will suck to pack if you go that route. You already have a heavy action and barrel that aren’t the most ideal...

Hybrid LR Hunting/ Match Rifle Project

You can do that but why not just have a great target rifle and a great hunting rifle? If I was doing that 300 PRC build I’d have Wade cut me a 20-24” (depending on if you’re going to run a can or not) #3B with deep spiral flutes and drop it in a Manners PH and call it a day. You can still use...

Smoking deal on a Solus rifle

They make their own barrels in house.

Smoking deal on a Solus rifle

All the more reason to stay away from their complete rifles. The BA AR-15 barrels I’ve had (mostly match barrels) have all been hot garbage. They don’t have a record of making high quality barrels.

Hybrid LR Hunting/ Match Rifle Project

Personally I’d keep the 737 rifle the way it is for target shooting and build your 300PRC out and just run it for hunting in general and send the Stiller down the road. Yeah it’s overkill for a lot of things but who cares? Dead is dead. Or split it down the middle and do a 7PRC instead. Switch...

Smoking deal on a Solus rifle

Those things are heavy AF for a hunting rifle and I wasn’t very impressed with the solus I played with in a store a few weeks back. You can get a PH2 for the same price if you shop around by time you pay tax and stuff on that rifle from midway and actually have a rifle that won’t suck to carry...

Think of buying a 6creedmoor which rifle?

I have 4 Seekins rifles and they’re all phenomenal shooters. If you want a shorter barrel but don’t want to spent the $$ for the Element or you want the steel action you can buy a PH2 in another caliber you want and for $550 Seekins will rebarrel it with a 21” Element barrel. Buy an action...

Tikka T3X Roughtech 6.5 Creedmoor - learning to shoot

The easy button is H4350, Lapua or Alpha small rifle primer brass, CCI 450’s and Berger 140 hybrids. .020” off the lands and start around 40.5gr and work up to 43gr. You’ll usually find a node at 41.5-41.6 and then again 42.2-42.7. Varget also works well with 130gr class bullets and is cleaner...

    First NRL Hunter match

Agreed. I’ve had a bunch of BDL 700’s and model 7’s in 223 and they all had feeding issues. Kimber Montana 223 was spotty also. The only mag fed 223 bolt gun I’ve had issues with were Tikkas, not as unreliable as the BDL’s but they would have problems once a mag in average. I’ve never had a 700...
