Help with Redding body only sizing die

I use Redding body dies for my rifles and have no problems bumping the shoulder back a couple thousands.

Help bringing old rifle new life

I received my dad's 264 wm back in 2015 and the barrel was also shot out. I asked several family members what they would like me to do with it. They all wanted it re barreled and back shooting. The rifle is a Win 70 built in '65 and was a very accurate rifle so not just any barrel, it had to be...

    Hearing Protection in the field?

I have used several different kinds of hearing protection in the last 10 to 20 years. The main protection I've worn the past 10 years has been Howard Leight's Sport Impacts but for rifle and shotguns, muffs get in the way. I have been shopping uhh, researching in ear electronic options for...

    Target at say 650+

I've been shopping around for AR500 steel targets for awhile and my first purchase was at Superior Ideas, Inc. https://sitargets.com/product-category/ar500-steel-targets/ I wanted something I can shoot pistol and magnum rifles at. They have a good selection to choose from. I bought some T Post...

Have a bullet seating depth question

Possible, you had a lot less blow by with the shorter jump to the lands, keeping more PSI behind the bullet (pressure spike). But I haven't measured all your stuff to make a more educated guess... How far off the lands is the bullet in your rifle at Saami spec length?

    308 ladder test imr 4064 178 hpbt

Ladder test are normally .5 grain increments for larger cases and .3 for small cases. Looking at the Lyman 49th edition manual, starting load for 174gr, IMR4064, and an OAL of 2.780", is 39.5 gr and 44.3 gr max, PSI listed at 61,100. IF, your OAL is longer, using a bolt gun with 63k PSI, you...

    New dies scratching brass

I have the nitride bushings. After depriming and wet tumbling, I use either a body die or FL bushing die and resize the case. Redding and maybe others recommend not sizing the neck more than .004 at a time for concentricity reasons. So the FL bushing die is set to .296 and a neck bushing die...

Does neck length on brass make a difference in accuracy?

Obviously there is more to it than longer necks are more accurate than shorter neck. A short neck centered will be more accurate than a longer neck that is off centered. From things I've seen, I agree with MagnumManic that neck tension is more important. I attended a local high power match to...

    Redding bushing die worth it?

The biggest accuracy problem I found with my re-barreled 264wm was with brass inconsistencies. The Nosler brass had case wall variations that not only affected neck tension but also a stiff load of powder would leave the cases bent like a banana, well, the worst cases anyway. The case weights...

    Favorite neck turner

I bought the 21 Century neck turning tool kit and added the shell holder and driver. I will get the lathe at a later date. I also have a neck wall thickness gauge that I used to measure all my cases first and then set my neck turner up to have them all the same, with the exception of a few that...

    Neck size tension?

My experience with Nosler brass has been it's not as consistent as Norma. The weight and thickness vary more which adds to the velocity swings. Case wall thickness variations and a health dose of power can leave the case in the shape of a banana after firing. I also noticed when shooting ladder...

Good options for rings and bases

I installed Talley 1 piece rings/mounts on 2 of my rifles and had the same issue. 1st set installed on a Rem 700, low mounts, the Magnification ring hit the rear base. This was using a Vortex scope with 30mm tube. Never shot it cause the eye relief was not correct so bought the mediums and...

    264 WM & 143 gr ELD-X accurate load

What is your barrel twist rate? What brass and powder are you using? The biggest hurdle I had was the Winchester brass was pretty low quality. Neck tension was all over the place and very difficult to seat bullets. Neck thickness variations of .002 and more were common. Same powder (H1000)...

    Viper PST FFP vs. SFP

The reticle on the PST is illuminated so you can see the thin reticle in low light, no problem. The FFP model will allow you to estimate range at any magnification setting, quickly, then you can hold over for quick shots or dial to est range when you have more time. My current procedure is...

    Re-barrel a Win M-70 or start over?

I have my dad's Winchester 70 264 Mag built in 1965 and just had a new barrel installed. I had a Kreiger 4 grove cut to 26" and a straight taper done. The smith had to remove some wood to fit the larger profiled barrel but every other thing was great and no more work was done. I asked about...
