I buried my Mom yesterday.
There’s a FACT I can prove for you.
She was 73 but perfectly healthy. Looked 60 , worked full time and did anything she wanted.
Not even on cholesterol or blood pressure meds. She died FROM COVID... nothing else. Oh, and she was taking vitamin D, C and Zinc regularly...
I was just throwing out a differing opinion.
I didn’t know you were intending to stretch it out to 800 yards with a 4.5lb rifle.
I assumed that with that light of a rifle and 16-18” barrel this was a short handy rifle for thicker timber.
Most would agree a 308 and 6.5 Creedmoor are about...
OP says he wants a 16”-18” barrel. That’s been done to death with a 308 and is effective.
just because load data shows you can potentially hit close to 2800 doesn’t mean the rifle will like it.
Somewhere less than a maxed out load will probably be where he ends up accuracy wise.
Then would it...
just my opinion but anything shorter than 20” might as well do a 308.
tons of proven combos and data and you wouldn’t have to try and reinvent the wheel.
I live in Auburn
i have some
customers in Montgomery so I’m over there often.
I need to post up some other powders I have that I’m not likely to develop a load for.
hate to let them sit on the shelf if someone could use them.
Yea I wish it had the bedding block.
Worth it for a little extra weight.
even if the rifle came in at 6.25 lbs or so would still be a winner in my opinion.
I don’t doubt it will shoot as is without the bedding block.
Heck a $300 axis will shoot better than most people can in actual hunting...
I like it a lot.
probably 7lbs scoped up.
1.5 lb trigger and that stock should have the full length aluminum bedding so not a flimsy typical Tupperware stock.
I’m thinking 280ai and like the 22” barrel.
Short, light and handy for southern creek bottom thickets and able to stretch it out long...
This topic comes up often but why use .223? If that’s your only rifle well.. ok.
But I seriously doubt anyone in this forum only has one rifle.
Just know limitations and shoot thru the lungs and you’ll be fine.
The Barnes, accubond or partition will all kill well if you keep shots around 100...
