Load development for ruger American 22-250

All very good comments, but one thing to consider in reloading is consistant shot-to-shot velocity. You might want to put getting a chronograph on your list as you start doing load development. Otherwise, changes you make in powder, bullets, primers, and cases becomes hit or miss. (bad pun).

How Many Yards Until No Longer Lethal

200 years ago, when all we had was black powder, muskets, and low velocity ammunition, the answer was different. Reading through the list of men who died in the civil war you would see two designations. Killed in Action and Mortally Wounded. The Mortally Wounded list was 6-8 times longer than...

    Bergara MGLite vs Bergara Divide

If you are just hunting rather than target shooting, always go for the lighter option. The older you get, the more you will hate the extra weight when toting it.

    Chronographing expertise needed.

I would try a Labradar or an Ohler at least 10 feet from the muzzle to eliminate any potential issues with muzzle blast.

    Powder issues

Before changing anything, I would chronograph the load at different temperatures. You seem to have a good load developed already. If you see significant velocity differences, then start looking for another powder.

Slow Model 700 7mm Rem Mag?

Agree with Salmonhead. The best way to test this is to chono the reloaded ammo in another rifle. Velocity is pressure related and pressure depends on the length of time the bullet stays in the barrel.

    Limiting my cartridges

As I was reading your list, I thought you should consider something in .30 cal, but you addressed that with the .300 PRC. I would consider three things when paring down the list. Caliber needed for the particular game, weight if you are toting it a lot, and accuracy.

    Supressed or not

I understand the reason for wanting to have a universal suppressor. However, changing out the “guts” would probably be more trouble than it is worth as some designs are “sealed” to lower the db report. There are suppressors that have interchangeable caps or ends for different calibers, but the...

    Supressed or not

I've found that some rifles will shoot better suppressed and others have groups open up when suppressed. It is all about harmonics and consistency with bullet velocities. The only real way to know is to try it both ways with each load.

    Barrel Crown

I assume when you say “recessed” crown you mean a typical factory crown that is rounded over. I’ve had a couple of rifles that didn’t shoot well until I put an 11 degree target crown on them. I don’t think the type of crown was an issue, but that the crown was not concentric. I don’t care for...
