    22 creedmoor reamer thoughts?

I go 1:7.5" for the heavy weight bullets. Mine has a 1:7" twist Brux.

    Great Podcast on terminal performance.

Agreed. Bullet selection (terminal performance) plays a huge role in any cartridge performance on game. On the whole of my experiences, I'd rank it #2. RIght after #1, animal profile & hit location. With extreme bullet failures, like complete failure to expand, it has occasionally ranked #1.

You thought the prices were bad?

Might come down to days of old. Blowing poison darts.

    Carbon barrel load development

Hahaha... It all goes with this hobby and territory we frequent.

    Carbon barrel load development

What other option did you have? I moved on too. Everyone either moves on, or continues to shoot a turd. My contention is CFW barrels generate a higher percentage of poor shooting barrels than plain steel barrels. They skinny them down and then fatten them up with a CF epoxy glued wrap. Each...

    Carbon barrel load development

Bartlein told me those needles are defective. Can't be relied upon to provide accurate measurements. I kid you not one bit! Which is why all their bores meet their design tolerances. Hahaha

    Carbon barrel load development

350 rounds in load development??? Yikes! You're the standard bearer of exceptional patience! Send that sucker back to the manufacturer and let them check it out and shoot it. And be very thankful for their customer service.

    Carbon barrel load development

They looked at one of my CFWs and told me it met their tolerances and specifications. So I had second custom gunsmith rechamber it a 2nd time. He measured one of the grooves about 0.0004" deeper than the rest while he had the barrel indicated in his lathe. Bartlein said that's not possible...

    Carbon barrel load development

Agreed, if the barrel shoots. If it doesn't, where's the benefit.

    Carbon barrel load development

Yup. Gotta be needing a pure backpacking rifle for the hills and mountains of Alaska before I have much interest in CFW. I own 6 of them. Two Bartleins that shot so poorly I pulled them off the actions and don't use them. So I have a 66% success rate with my 6 CFWs.

    Carbon barrel load development

The "Dud" rate with CFW barrels is higher than plain steel barrels. I have one Bartlein CFW tomato stake, which they inspected and refused to replace. When you get a dud CFW, it stings close to twice as much, because that's the additional cost, compared to a SS barrel. Many will shoot. But...

    Bear protection handguns?

As I prepare to tap the post reply tab, I see this is an extraordinarily long post. Even after spending some effort shortening it. Anyhowz... I was with a guy that dropped a smallish sized black bear with a 44 Mag S&W revolver back in the spring of 1980. It was a nuisance bear on Alaska's Kenai...

    SOLD/EXPIRED Federal Terminal Ascent 30cal

The TAs are noted as sold, as of May 2nd.

    Great Podcast on terminal performance.

Hahaha... With respect to terminal performance, I tend to agree. Primary difference I see is the initial violent shrapnelling of match style bullets (frangible due to their paper thin jackets). The nose of match bullets literally explode at high impact velocities, like varmint bullets. To...

    Bear protection handguns?

Anybody thinks Phil is recommending 9mm with any bullet, to stop a completely determined brown or grizzly bear charge, misinterpreted his interview statements. I recall him stating it would be suicidal to go into the brush after any wounded bear with the 9mm. He killed a less than determined...
