    Federal 215M alternative

I checked the local stores and they have Remington, Winchester and CCI. As far as ES spread goes is there a way to narrow it down without buying and testing? I've always been under the impression that the threshold for Large Rifle vs. Large Rifle Magnum is 70 grains or powder. I don't know...

    Cold Fouled Barrel POI

I ran JE Customs test last night. The gun shot a nice .75" 3 shot group at 200 yards. The POI stayed consistent. This may have been operator error when I noticed a POI change. I'm going to test it again tomorrow.

    Federal 215M alternative

I think I may find a Chupacabra before I find more Federal 215/215M primers. I'm down to my last box of 100 Federal 215M and need to find an alternative. What Large Rifle Magnum primer would you recommend for a case using 74.5g of H1000?

    Cold Fouled Barrel POI

J E Custom, My first shot on a cold fouled barrel is going high. Have you experienced a cold and fouled POI change compared to warm and fouled?

    Cold Fouled Barrel POI

I've got a rifle that the POI of a cold fouled barrel is 1 MOA higher than the POI of a warm barrel. I know the easy answer is aim 1 MOA lower on the first shot, but I would really like to fix this if possible. I've checked that my barrel is free floated from the recoil lug forward and that the...

    Throat Maintenance

4 = Don't believe everything you read on the internet. What?????? Thanks for the advice. I recently build a custom rifle and want to take care of it the best way possible.

    Throat Maintenance

I've read a couple articles that state keeping the throat smooth is important to stable pressures and accuracy. None of the articles went into much detail about how to polish the throat and how often it needs to be done. What do you all do to maintain your chamber throats?

    Anyone own a 7mm 300 Win Mag?

RL33 didn't do it for me. I had excellent accuracy at 79g but it gave up too much speed for my liking, 2940 with 180 VLD. I worked up to 85 grains hoping to hit a high node but it didn't happen. I started showing slight pressure signs at 84.5 and clear ejector marks at 85.

    Anyone own a 7mm 300 Win Mag?

Thanks for the info Chuckhammer. I made it to the range to today to test a few different RL33 loads. Accuracy was outstanding. Three different powder charges were sub 1/2 MOA at 100 yards. The amount of RL33 I'm using is much lower than your load. I may be hitting the lower node. I didn't...

    Anyone own a 7mm 300 Win Mag?

Chuckhammer, I just picked up a few pounds of RL33 to use in a 7 Practical with 180 Berger VLD's. Can you share the load for your 7-300 wildcat? I'm having trouble determining a starting point. PM it to me if your not comfortable posting it. Thanks

7mm STW - Stuck cases, at wits end

We were finally able to make it to the range last weekend. I am happy to report that 12 shots were fired without any sign of sticking brass. The minor polish job using Flitz did the job. None of the cases had any marks in front of the belt like they did in the pictures I posted earlier. I think...

7mm STW - Stuck cases, at wits end

"Did you remove the barrel to polish it? Did you try measuring the back of the chamber?" We polished the chamber without removing the barrel. If the polish job doesn't fix the problem we are going to remove the barrel and make a cast of the chamber to take the measurements. "I would size the...

7mm STW - Stuck cases, at wits end

Thanks for all the advise. Last night we polished the chamber with Flitz. We figured if it needed to be re-chambered we might as well try a quick polish job. We did as much reading as we could find on polishing a chamber. From all our reading we gathered super smooth wasn't what we wanted. We...

7mm STW - Stuck cases, at wits end

Yes, new cases are less likely to stick, 1 out of 20 maybe. Even then the bolt would extract with a bit of effort. Fireformed cases are 1 in 3 and they have to be tapped out with a cleaning rod.

7mm STW - Stuck cases, at wits end

This may be a dumb question, but why would an oversized chamber cause the case to stick?
