New to me issue with brass

Cases were dented from firing, have been cleaned post firing, but exhibit traces of carbon at the base of the neck and shoulder, the Hornady manual puts you just off max, and since H4350 powder is actually ADI AR2209 it’s odd that their recommendation with a 180 gr bullet also puts you midway...

    284 Winchester For Hunting

I have a new .284 Win on a Pierce Ti short action with McMillan A3 carbon stock, 24” fluted Lilja barrel, purely for hunting. Still to use it for its intended purpose. If your gunsmith has a reamer then consider a .284 Shehane. It’s an extra 3.4gr in capacity. My smith didn’t unfortunately...

    $1,000 Binoculars

Another vote for Meopta, but from Cabela’s. I’ve been using their 10x42‘s for several years. Brilliant quality at a competitive price. Currently they only have their Euro HD in 8x32 and 12x50 on sale, but they do have Leica Trinovid HD 10x42’s for $999. Also excellent glass.

    sling for fluch cups

I am aware you have already purchased your sling, but consider 3HGR slings. I have the 3HGR Light Harness with Grovtec flush swivels on my lightweight mountain rifle. It can be used as a standard sling, a biathlon sling or a safety sling. I also have a TAB Gear Biathlon sling for carrying a...

    Scope for 270

I fitted a Meopta Meostar R2 1.7-10x42 RD with a 4K reticle on my Sako L61R .270W. Brilliant Euro scope at a reasonable price. Rings are Sako Optilock and the barrel is fluted which brought the rifles balance to its optimum, great for pigs in scrub. The low power suits heavy forest, the higher...

    Forgot, H4350 is AR2209.

    90 gr ELD-X and 6x47 Lapua

Try ADI http://www.adiworldclass.com.au/data-rifle/6-x-47mm-lapua From here you can work out a start load as a lot of Hodgdon powders are made by ADI, part of the reason supply is difficult for the US. It has to be shipped from Australia. Varget is AR2208. Also see...

Old eyes struggling to read the turret?

Why not get some clear dual reader safety glasses? They are available in various magnifications to suit you ageing eyes, and are safer. Another benefit is the UV reduction which helps reduce cataract formation.

Glasses or no glasses with scopes

Another advantage to wearing corrective contacts is you will find it much easier using a spotting scope and binoculars. Another benefit is since the correction is set for distance you will find it mostly corresponds to the zero diopter mark on the scopes ocular setting.

Glasses or no glasses with scopes

Probably not. If you wear progressive lenses you will notice that images are blurry when viewed away from the centreline of the lens, such as when you look through the top left corner of your glasses (rh shooter) when sighting through a scope. That’s why most progressive glasses wearer turn...

Glasses or no glasses with scopes

Hi Andrew, long time reader, first time post. I have astigmatism, had it all my life and yes I’m getting on, 68, and normally wear progressive glasses that also enable me to focus at distance, computer work through to reading. The problem with any corrective lenses, trifocals or progressive, are...
