Whats the worse rifle or gun you ever bought ? I hsve several tied

A Beretta 696 AND a Beretta Silver Pigeon. Both of them wouldn’t hit anywhere close to the point of aim. The Silver Pigeon’s lower barrel would hit 4” low at 13 yards, and the upper barrel hit 3” left. Do the math for how that would look at 40 yards. And that was the “good” one of the two...

    Best Beam Scale

I’ve had both the RCBS 304 and an Ohaus M5 for years. I find the M5 to be far better for repeatability.

    RL15.5 & 7mm-08

Not the TSX, but I used a 120 gr TTSX and RL-15 in my 7mm-08s for a number of years. I was loading 44 gr of RL-15 for two rifles with 22” barrels. I don’t have the velocity info at hand, but I took plenty of elk and deer with that combo.

Reloading for 30-06 - Barnes Bullets

Sorry. My info was intended for the original poster, in which he's looking for a recipe to use with a 150 gr. TTSX.

Reloading for 30-06 - Barnes Bullets

I’ve taken a bunch of elk with the 150 gr TTSX in my .30-06 Rem Mtn rifle. My load for years has been 52.0 gr Varget, CCI 200, seated .05 off the lands. I was getting just shy of 3,000 fps with it. You could also try Big Game powder if you have it around. I’d probably go with a magnum primer if...

    120 hammer hunter experience

I shoot a 120 gr. Hammer Hunter in my 7mm-08, and have taken three elk and a number of deer. They have worked quite well on all the animals, with none traveling more than 20 yards. I've been using Varget and have been getting 5-shot groups right at 1.5". I've recently been shooting IMR-8208...

Load data wanted for .308Win, 135gn Power Hammer

    I don't have information from an 18" barrel, but I can give you the following: Kimber Montana .308 22" barrel 135 gr. Power Hammer Ramshot TAC CCI 250 primer 2.76" OAL 1/8 turn FCD 45.5 - 2964 fps 46.0 - 3035 fps 46.5 - 3038 fps 47.0 - 3039 fps 47.5 - 3064 fps 48.0 - 3158 fps I didn't notice...

    124 HAMMER - .308Win - TAC

You're welcome. I should also add that I used CCI 200 primers and I seated mine at 2.70" OAL. That put the crimp right in the first power band. I did the crimp and neck tension since the bullet has less baring surface. I don't if it was really necessary but I wanted that bullet to stay in...

    124 HAMMER - .308Win - TAC

I am shooting 124 gr. Hammer Hunters in a Kimber Montana .308, with a 22" barrel. I started at 47 gr. of TAC, and ultimately found the right load at 49 gr. I am getting 3,180 fps, without pressure signs. I load mine with .004 neck tension, and 1/8 turn Lee factory crimp die.

Bipod or shooting sticks for spot & stalk Elk Hunting?

I use my trekking poles with Wiser Precision connectors on them. I used to carry shooting sticks but these are far sturdier, and result in a more steady rest as well. I wouldn't mind shooting off a bipod but I can't recall the last elk I could have taken even if I had them mounted to my rifle...

    Utah cow and Barnes TSX

I believe Barnes designed it with the tip to initiate expansion quicker. I think you will find the 130 gr. or 150 gr. TTSX will perform very well in your .308 (or an in between like the 137 gr. Hammer Hunter). Like some have posted, drop down in weight in order to drive them faster. Good luck...

    Utah cow and Barnes TSX

Indeed. I've taken over 30 elk, with Partitions, Accubonds, Interlocks, TTSX, and now Hammer bullets, and I can recall instances where the elk didn't drop as quickly as I thought it would. And some of those were just as you described, with the heart or lungs being destroyed. It's also amazing...

Garmin In Reach, or another recommendation

I've used the full-sized InReach for a good ten years and I love it. More importantly, my wife loves it. When I go elk hunting, I just turn on tracking and she's able to see that I'm moving all day. I told her if she ever decided to leave me that she's sitting on a gold mine of information...

    Utah cow and Barnes TSX

Yep. I've taken a number of elk with both of those bullets, and they performed quite well. A few years ago I started shooting the 137 gr. Hammer Hunter in my .308, and it has worked even better, in that I get much better accuracy at longer ranges.

    Day pack with rifle holder

I've used a Kifaru pack and their Gun Bearer for a good 10 years, and I love that thing. I can get my rifle to my shoulder and ready to shoot, far faster than a rifle sling. Plus, I love having my hands free.
