    Set and Forget Scope Recommendation

Maybe this is somewhat inappropriate as I don't use scopes. I am in my 60s, the rifle choice for my dear hunting or for that matter, anything else is in 1886 Winchester chambered in 45-70. I have a MVA tang site on it, the aperture disk on it is .70". My front site is a simple gold bead. I have...

What is the the most flat shooting cartridge yall can think of?

What is relevant. First of all, what do you consider flat shooting? I consider anything that I can engage a target at 500 a 1000 yards relevant or flat shooting. So by that logic, a mortar round. I guess what I'm trying to say is. What do you plan on to do with it? Paper punch varment, medium...

favorite powder for 45-70 modern loads?

Let me start off by saying sorry, if I upset anybody, but a 4570 has a rainbow arc of trajectory. If you want something flat get a 30-06. Don't get me wrong. I was a recoil junkie when I was much much younger these days. My shoulder doesn't like it. I have a Marlin 1895 and a Winchester 1886...

How to stay dry and warm during deer season?

I hope this helps First of all good boots. I don't care if you buy rubber or leather good boots that don't leak and will keep your feet warm. If you buy leather, gators that breathe, if they make you sweat, they're no good. For pants and a jacket, the cheapest way to go would be to by carhartt...

Loss of Love for Leupold, New scope time.

Give Vortex a try, you'll be glad you did. They come with a lifetime warranty in the event that you would need it. I have a couple of them and one is on a big bore rifle and with everything I put it through it is still dead on.

405 vs 500 for better accuracy & long range

Just started loading again, was able to get 300 405gr rnfp bullets for the 45-70 (Marlin 1895c). They shoot good but now I can not find anything, everything is back ordered or out of stock. Before I start casting I was hoping to try different bullet weights and find something that worked good...

    Reloading question

Sorry I did not respond sooner, you're absolutely right and the next morning I was thinking the same thing after a good night's sleep. Started looking everything over again and I did post to the group but here it is. My powder scale is in 10 increments and my scale itself is in 5gr increments...

    Reloading question

Thanks to everyone, I had a D/A attack but got my head in the game and now I am getting good results around 1350fps with some good groups. I know most people want the higher velocities and would load for around the 1800fps or higher but I am not 20 anymore and the recoil just plain hurts...

    Reloading question

I am ashamed to admit this, but I was reading the scale incorrectly. I have been using a beam scale and each tic mark is 5 grains not 10. Someone said check my scale and well. I fell well you know. But anyway at 35gr I now have 1389fps. It has been a few years since I have reloaded so check two...

    Reloading question

I am 15ft away from chronograph and I also fired a factory round as well and the factory was spot on. I think it is the barrel length. In any case I will ease up and keep checking. And again thanks.

    Reloading question

No everything looks good, but I think I have figured it out. The trapdoor loads are for a 30in barrel my marlin is a 22in barrel. I did go back and look at a 1970s manual and it did say for a marlin with a 22in barrel the starting load was 37gr. I will ease up and see what I get. Everything...

    Reloading question

Take a look at the springfield data that is where I am starting at and that is where you should see the 405 bullets. This is where I am getting my data. And yes I am using a roll chrimp. Also jonnyk ouch is right that is why I would like to stay around the 1300 to 1400 fps range.

    Reloading question

I have been Reloading for some 40 plus years both pistol and rifle and I have not had this ever happen before. A few years ago I finally bought a 45-70 a marlin 1895 classic and for the last few years I have been buying Federal power shok 300gr cartridges just building my brass collection. Now...
