Thanks a lot for the info guys I think all I have left is to try and get a rifle on order. That video of the 300 wsm is crazy for a factory gun with a 23" barrel.

Ok I think I have decided on going with a 300wm. Now it's the rifle has anyone been around the new savage rifles I'm not a huge fan of the Remington I have shot a few and couldn't get comfortable.

I am new to this and am wondering how did everyone getinto hunting and how old were you I ask because i had never shot a gun till i was 20. My girlfriend at the time got me into shooting then hunting wither her father and now we have split up but i pend most of my time out side of work scouting...

my girlfriend hunts but isnt interested in the being out with nature just wants to go shoot a deer and put it in the freezr i think shed shoot the 2 point in the neighbors yard if she could instead of going to the bush to find a deer.

i havnt shot the 700 long range but have shot 4 different 7mm and they were all manageable with out a break. the one rifle was a winchester feather light i loaded up 162grn amax ammo for it and it shot very well with not much more recoil than my 30-06

i have been trying to decide between these calibers and have been going around in cercles for about a year. are there any disadvantages or advantages to either caliber, everything i find says that each one is the best depending on the site.

I am looking into buying a new rifle for hunting next year. i am currently shooting a 30-06 and have it reaching over 600 meters but i am looking for something with a bit more punch at longer distance. i am going to start off asking about what is a good larger caliber for elk and mule deer. also...
