help me decide.... keep 7mm STW alive or move on to different caliber??

Primer pockets are easily fixable. I have reused my 300WM brass and refined primer pockets over and over again. I simply put a ball peen hammer in vice. I insert a bolt or metal rod close to the ID of the neck and long enough to extend outside the casing. I then set the case on the ball peen...

Would you prefer a 1" vertical string group or a 1" horizontal string group?

Grateful for all the input. When I upped it .3 grains it spread the group all over the place. I might try bringing it down .2. The horizontal group has a seating depth of 3.610 (CBTO) The vertical group is 3.605. Seating the bullet at 3.603 made a huge group. (Amazing what .002 can do). I can...

Would you prefer a 1" vertical string group or a 1" horizontal string group?

I did a search and could not find this particular topic. My Ruger m77 30-06 used to shoot sub MOA groups but somehow lost its accuracy. Started over and bedded it. My old load seems to be right, but have been chasing seating depth. Found a node. When the bullet is seated at 3.610 CBTO, it shoots...

    9mm side arm

Ohhhhhh yes. It is the p320 X ten. It is sweeeeeet. I knew I had to have one when I learned about it. I sold my G29 and another pistol to buy it. I was on a waiting list and the gun came in. I jumped on it like a chicken on a June bug. I won't ever get rid of my G20 or my G40 (long barreled...

    9mm side arm

I agree with the personal preference. It is all what you can shoot best. If you will go to http://www.ballistics101.com/357_magnum.php and look at the energy of a .357 and then click on "handgun ballistic on the top left" and click 10mm you can compare the two in bullet weight loads, etc.

    9mm side arm

A 10 mm loaded to its intended spec is slightly more than the a typical .357 magnum. But the pistol is lighter and shorter with a longer sight radius for the same length barrel. It also has more rounds (Glock 20 and Sig 320X hold 16 rounds) in a lighter package. It also has a faster reload if...

Case length variation in new brass and accuracy

Many thanks for the wealth of information here. I have learned much by this forum. I used a lee tool that hits the bottom of the case at the primer hole and it is set to 2.610. It is easy to over hog material on this, however. Some ended up 2.605. They are in the "shooters" pile. Thanks

Case length variation in new brass and accuracy

I am sorting out my brass and started by measuring the over all length of the case. My once fired cases vary as much as .014. So then I went to a new bag of cases and found the difference to be the same. Most are all under the spec length (which I take to be the recommended limit length). I...

300 PRC or 338 Lapua for bigger animals?

I shoot 208 gr in my 300 Win Mag. Anything lighter is not up to par. I don't know about a 300 Weatherby, but I am sure it will do all you need to do. However, if I needed an excuse to get a new gun - and if you reload - I would look into the 338.

    Your sidearm choice

For open carry and bears, you might consider a Glock 40 in 10mm. It is a joy to shoot with long 6" barrel. You could also go Glock 20 which is full size also but regular sized barrel (each have 15 round mages with one in the tube. Lots of fire power). Then you could use the shorter Glock 29 for...

Having hell with my new 300win

I had a hard time with my 300 WM. There were a number of things I did that finally got me a single hole accuracy at 100 yards. Before that it was shooting crazy patterns. One thing I see is that you are using light bullets light bullets don’t always givena flat trajectory. In fact, it is often...

    10mm auto powerrecommendations

I use 13.5 grains of #9 with 180 Gr bullets. I get around 1300 fps from my G-40 with that load. YMMV.

Same EXACT load as last years load shoots like crap

I have not chronographed either load. Both are shot in the same temp, right next to each other. The idea of bullet weld could be the only difference, though they were loaded 6 months ago. Head space and weigh scales are the exact same. I measure CBTO on each. Exactly the same.

Same EXACT load as last years load shoots like crap

Same exact brass. In fact, reloaded some of those that shot well with same exact load. Powder is half-full can sitting on shelf.

Same EXACT load as last years load shoots like crap

There is only one crazy thing, which cannot be a realistic factor. The cartridges loaded last fall had time to sit and settle (though it is a compacted load). If ammo cannot be used until it settles 6 months, it is of no use. It has been in a climate-controlled place of same relative...
