    One Gun Hunters

I keep the same load for everything. 168 grain TTSX at 2785fps in my 308 goes with me for deer, elk, coyote, and even the occasional woodchuck. Although I do have a load worked for 168 grain AMAX bullets that shoots basically identically out to 300ish. Drops only slightly more then the ttsx at...

Where do you find used hunting gear?

There are lots of groups on Facebook for used gear. Some are brand specific. Obviously not going to find anything for your weapon, but camo, packs, tents, etc. can all be bought/sold/traded. I have acquired some Kuiu clothing through the groups and was happy with how it all worked out. Tons of...

    What’s you pack load out?

Base weight for my last 4 day elk trip was 29lbs, and 12 of that was rifle haha. I was into Ultralight backpacking for years before I ever did any overnight hunting trips, so that helped me out. I did a 5 night, 6 day thru hike and I was at 22lbs with full food and 2 liters of water. Lots of...

    Big hunting trips

This one is big for me... headed to Colorado for a DIY Public land Elk hunt on an OTC Tag. This will be my second time. Big road trip for me... over 2000 miles each way. Backpacking into a wilderness area... no ATV access. Cant wait! I have a 5 year plan to do an Alaskan Caribou hunt... that...

Bergara Wilderness Ridge or Savage 110 High Country

My vote would be for the savage... I have owned 5 savages and all shot under an inch, and 3 under .5 inch. 1967 110, Stevens 200, Axis II, Hog Hunter, and 110 Tactical. But Tikkas are great rifles, too. Smoother bolts.

    Waterproof Gear Bag

No zippers. The bag rolls at the top and then has clips that keep it from unrolling. Super clean and simple.

    Waterproof Gear Bag

I have 2 of the Cabelas Boundary Water roll top bags in the magnum size. Big enough to hold my fully loaded pack with a little room to spare. Pretty heavy duty, and I strapped them to the hard cover on the bed of my truck and drove through a few hours of rain with no issues.

    What pack are you using?

I bought 3 different pack frames before finally buying a Kuiu pack. The others were fine under 60lbs and under 3 miles, but got really uncomfortable after that, and gave me some serious bruises. Bought the Kuiu, and its super comfortable and adjustable for your specific shape/ dimensions. Got...

Resurrection of the .308 & upping the game

Yes, the 168ttsx shoot great out of my gun, and perform VERY well on deer. .4MOA out to 500 yards, which is as far as I have had opportunity to shoot them. 43.0 IMR4895 and 43.5 Varget shoot same size groups. Im shooting a Savage 110 Tactical 24''. Getting 2785fps with varget. To the OP...

    Understanding the 308 win

Yes sir. Cant really ever go wrong with a 308

    Understanding the 308 win

IMO, its the best all around cartridge there is. Easily capable of taking any North American Big game, and it can be loaded down to 110gn bullets for varmint hunting. With 168 or heavier, tight groups at 1000yards is no problem, tons of data for reloads, tons of components, barrels, low...

How much weight/distance for backpack training?

I have been hiking with my hunting pack 4-6 times a week. Today's hike was just shy of 3 miles with a 88.5lb pack. Most of the time I have 70lbs. My average speed was 3.5mph. Im trying to keep the speed high since I dont have super steep hills to train on... I only have moderate stuff. When I...

The Upcoming Assassination of a Junk Rifle Scope

I have a PA 4-14x44 ACSS HUD DMR and its a great scope for the money ($279). Very clear, passes box test with flying colors, and the reticle is dead on with my loads out to 1000yards (give or take .5MOA). Not all Primary Arms Stuff is garbage. And as for the SWFA, its much easier to reach that...

    Sig .308 brass experience

Good to hear! I'm considering picking up a second barrel for my savage in 6.5

    Sig .308 brass experience

Agreed. In my opinion, it's the best all around hunting option for North America. You can load 110gn and varmint hunt with it and get high speed, or put up to 200gn in there if you wish. 168 seems to be the magic number for me. I can get close to 2800fps, and get good grouping out to 1000...
