    I started shooting with 8mm Mauser (and no, it was not in the German army) and have to say, I like it best of all. There are still bullet choices out there for you to take large (elk, bear -- its been done) and small game. Plus, you can just shoot precision with it like I do. Surplus ammo...

    silohuette (sp?) shooting at 500 w/ .223

    reading all of your posts makes we wanna get back out there and give it a try..... I could do 300m with 69gr hpbt, but i saw that federal loads some 77gr or 80 gr bullets. I have to check the coal, cause I am using an HK semi-auto sl8. might have to feed em one at a time. anyone else try it.....

    bases are burrie 2 piece dovetails. and the rings are millet extra high. with that set up, I have about 5mm of clearance between barrel and bell.

    Go for it... I did. I took a 98k and rebarreled it...basically you could say I turned the action into a bench/ varmint gun. Went with a stainless steel Douglas premium in 8x57 with 1 in 10 twist, trued action, floated barrel, alum. block bedded stock, tmney trig, faster spring, and scoped it...
