Long range hunting 7STW build question.

I would go for the complete rebuild. You can get longer bullets in the extended mag, do the truing of the bolt face, threads etc... Maybe install a different extractor.

I was aksed a question today by a young man looking to start into the gunsmith trade, he wanted to know "if there were any gunsmiths of color" the following was my reply "As to gunsmiths of color in over thirty years as a gunsmith and having contact with hundreds of smiths throughout the world I...

    Savage Big Bore

You would have to pick a gun with a similar size cartridge for it to feed from the rotary magazine properly, and for it to extract, 30 30 and possibly 303 Savage would work.

    Poaching or survival

Today while watching one of the hunting shows on TV I saw them hunting Buffalo in Africa, they were in the middle of their stalk when the bulls ran off into the bush, they were very frustrated because they thought they had been going everything right, then they caught a poacher coming threw...

Ups store hates the 2nd amendment?

I have a friend that does stock work, he moved and hadn't set up his account for the new address so he tried to send 4 or 5 stocks from the nearest UPS store they took the stocks and gave him his tracing numbers, after 5 days he had several customers asking where their stocks were, he ran the...

    checkering

When you practise use hard wood not soft, the tips break and it is harder to keep your lines straight. As was said earlier buy good tools and buy or build a strong ridged cradle, start with a simple pattern. Frustration is your worst enemy so eliminate as much as possible. I believe their are...

    Barrel Fluting

I have fluted over one hundred barrels and they all seem to shot fine. I buy blanks and have them cryoed then I contour them cut the tenon, thread, fit to the action, chamber, cut crown, then flute on a verticle mill. I use two vises and a custom 30 inch parallel. I know use a Haas indexer...

    Lambeth/Kiff Micrometer Adjustable Reamer Stops

I had been doing chambering for more then 30 years without one, but a year or so ago I saw a product review at the gunsmith forum The Gunsmiths :: Index Most of the members are professional gunsmiths and I find they know what they speak of, so I bought one and it was well worth the money. First...

    Remington 700 bolt failure

I would take it to a smith and have it soldered on so the timing is correct. Doing it yourself without the correct tools and fixtures you could get it wrong and have an unsafe gun.

Basic Gunsmithing that you can do

I do it exactly as you do. Customers are always surprised how much better they shot with a gun that fits them. I am in the process of building a try gun for stock fitting, I hope to be able to sell them for around $300.00 instead of the $1500.00 to $2,000.00 they run now, then a smith could...

Basic Gunsmithing that you can do

Excellent article for the guy that wants to start doing his own gunsmithing. I would add only that the stock fitting the shooter as well as the type of stock for the guns intended use is very important. A stock that is correctly fitted to the shooter helps with recoil and sighting.
