    Vancouver Island Black Bear

I take out my Sony a7ii on all hunts from my truck, and on some hikes if I don't have a lot of other gear for these exact moments and to do some landscape photography if conditions are perfect and I feel more like taking photos than actually hunting haha. And I always have a tripod for glassing...

    Vancouver Island Black Bear

Shooting a bear at first light is luxury, normally I stretch the process of getting them in the freezer over a couple of days, which is very nice for the back, but it was nice getting him done in one day. Did a few lbs of a fennel/anise mixture and a few lbs of a spicy Mexican sausage (cumin...

    Vancouver Island Black Bear

Well, of course, had you asked me this question before I took the shot, from 60 yards, sitting all majestic on top of the rock bluff next to a giant downed tree I would have confidently told you 300-350. Upon getting up close to him and the pecker pole of a downed tree, and throwing him around...

    Vancouver Island Black Bear

Went out Monday for first light, glassed a small clear-cut for a bit and then drove down the road a ways and got out to walk a road on the edge of a big clear cut. About 3/4 of the way up the clear-cut I had stopped to do a good once over with my binos when I heard a huff behind me. I looked up...

    Small gas leak around primer.

I just checked that actually, bolt face not etched, a slight ring that was mostly removed by wiping it with a q-tip. I also removed the primers from the cases expecting the one to have carbon along the side of the primer but it was clean. Ahhhh, maybe condensation?? I was cooling my barrel on my...

    Small gas leak around primer.

All new brass so far, I have yet to load any once fired.

    Small gas leak around primer.

I did not, visual inspect, neck size and load has been my go to thus far. There have been a couple of cases where the primer seemed to slip in a lot easier than most and I just tossed them. The ones for this load were all what I would consider normal from the very limited experience I have.

    Small gas leak around primer.

Decided to give 130gr Barnes TTSX a try in my 270 winchester to potentially use on an elk hunt in a couple of weeks, loading them behind h4831 and CCI BR2 primers in new winchester brass. Worked up the load from 55gr to 58gr in one grain increments and from there went in .3gr increments where it...

Let see the 2023 spring bear success

Vancouver Island, BC. After a good weekend in the bear woods, elk sheds found and a couple of decent bears making the slip on us, we walked around a rock face on the side of road to this bear at 25 yards, frozen. My buddy shouldered his 30/30 and asked if he should shoot. “I don’t know, it looks...

No POI change during load development.

Did this today at 400 yards, but will have to do it again as I was not 100% confident in my top-of-the-sonotube aiming point, but about 33” of drop would put me at roughly 2600fps. Sure was a country boy chronometer! Haha

No POI change during load development.

A small local shop just got them in stock, only selling 100 per customer, my dads going to get another 100 tomorrow as we'll be loading for his 270 as well.

No POI change during load development.

I was taking it real slow, and being ultra cautious for my first time, the first shot was probably the most stressful shot I’ve ever taken haha. I didn’t want to go right to max for my first time loading and I’m glad I didn’t. Not sure I would have shot them anyways even though there was no...

    Common sense reloading ...

I can confirm this, I just loaded and shot my first ammo yesterday, and without having a mentor that I could personally call or text to ask questions it was YouTube and forums to have my questions answered, and sometimes half answered as I was just reading the forums until yesterday. There are...

No POI change during load development.

Hahahahaha mysterious indeed! I was questioning it as I was writing it on there too, definitely going to keep writing it that way from here on out. Too funny!

No POI change during load development.

I will be posting on some Facebook groups in my area to find someone nice enough to take me out with their chronograph for the time being, shouldn’t have an issue I would imagine. No pressure signs but it sure did seem like it was getting pretty spicy starting at 53.5gr. 54gr kicked some good...
