I have been through this. I opted for the pof rogue. It's under 6# but the action takes up a lot of the kick. Could customize and further lighten it up with a carbon barrel and hand guard. Mine with a 2-8 vx3hd in a dnz mount is under 7#. 5 Rd mag makes it even lighter. Can also rebarrel to 338...
Marlin 336 in 356 Winchester, boyds laminate stock. 220 speer flat point at 2500 fps hits like a freight train. Short and easy to carry . Unfortunately was stolen from within UPS on its way to get diamond like coating put on it.
I'm running a POF rogue, the lightest 308 AR. Just under 6# stock. Leupold 2.5-8x 36 vx3hd. Just under 7 pounds with sling and 6 rounds in the mag. Feels really light compared to my cmmg ar10. Really easy to carry all day. Shoots 1 moa with federal 180 power points. A little better with hand loads.
Maplewood bullets can make you some real soft lead bullets flat front and even hollow point. Hawk bullets.ake some pretty soft heavies too. I learned all this messing around with old lever guns and now that data translates well to suppression subsonic hunting because your speed is limited you...
I would go soft lead at that speed, I use plain melted down wheel weights to mold in a 45 hand gun 200 grain and I get expansion to quarter size from 45. I have used on rabbit, deer, hogs. Pass through on deer but not hogs. I bet with a long 200 ish 30 cal it would really penetrate and...
I hunt public land mostly in SC. I live in Simpsonville and enjoy Union county Sumpter NF and the land around lake jocassee. I have never seen a pig in Union the last 15 years. I do run across them all around lake jocassee. I saw some last weekend at fants Grove. I think fants is Archery only. I...
SC is pretty Red, cheap too. The upstate where I live gets pretty good elevation. We call it the dark corner. Limited to white tails and pigs. But there are lots of them and the deer limit is generous. I put 5-7 in the freezer every year. There is a lot of public land. Greenville is a really...
I think you are right about the caliber difference, my 270, 556 and 6.5 all are more finiky than my 45-70s and 356. The big bore guns always are zero and I usually have some oil in them post hunting season.
