Weekend Decision… Power or Speed? 🤔

22 hornet behind the ear. But only if you insist on overkill! Otherwise a 22mag with a 45gr hp is more than sufficient if the trigger puller functions properly. Accuracy is top priority. That head on shot is your worst option, ask kay0404

    270 win bullet selection

My personal experience has been that 130 grain bullet is the most accurate weight I have ever shot in 270. But that's just me. I want to shoot whatever the rifle likes best, as shot placement is my priority one. That 130 rule has held for every 270 that I ever had any dealings with, and I...

    Scary incident at the range

I think what happens is the bolt drives the bullet into the case, (compressed load), and if it still dont chamber a quick hit on the assist closes the bolt enough to fire. Lucky the bolt didn't blow out the back and embed into the shooters cranial cavity! And Yes, that has happened

    Scary incident at the range

Sure looks like a blackout chambered and fired in a 556

    Quality gun safes

Graffunder or Browning. But the absolute best is build a BIG room, pour solid walls and ceiling, put a vault door on it

Barrel vice ,that came over on the Mayflower?

Take those wood blocks and coat them with powdered rosin and they will hold as good, or better, than most

    Shooting bag help wanted

In my experience light weight and accuracy don't go together well. There are several makers of sand bags, protektor comes to mind. I have used a #7 style front bag, with a #13 style rear bag filled with sand for close to 45 years. But that's just me. Had a buddy with caldwell bags filled with...

    Inletting Black

I had a good friend who was a Master Stock Maker for Winslow for years. I learned what little I know from him, but he always used bright red lipstick. Works amazingly well, cheap, and readily available, no matter where you are.

    .44mag for Hogs

I have shot a 6" 29 since back in the early 70's. My favorite all time load is 10gr. unique behind the Keith design single grease groove cast bullet. Straight wheelweights, don't do anything to them. I think that is a 250gr. bullet? That was the most accurate load I ever found, very mild recoil...

    Help me pick a scope

I agree 100% Rose! I don't even know how many 3.5x10x50mm A.O. heavy duplex Leupolds I have on hunting rifles. That is the scope that I use to compare all others to. If you take that scope, on a clear, full moon night, and get all of those really high dollar scopes out you will be surprised. Not...

    Help me pick a scope

Just for clarification, I personally wasn't promoting a $4000.00 dollar scope. In my opinion, and for the way I use my rifles, you can buy a whole lot of scope for less than $1,500. I have looked through high dollar scopes, and done side by side comparisons between them and a 50mm VXIII...

    Help me pick a scope

I agree with Rose, if this is a serious rifle, buy a serious scope. I have, and use, cheap scopes in some situations. But NONE of my serious hunting rigs gets a cheap scope. I have Leupold scopes that have been mounted on the same rifle for 30+ years, never had an issue, never change zero. I...

    Utah cow and Barnes TSX

I personally HATE heart shots. I've blown the heart completely out of a whitetail and he never flinched. Kept walking and never changed his pace. I thought I had missed at 140 or 150yds. Shot others that kept going way too long. What 'm trying to say is I wouldn't blame the bullet.

    Powders available at hodgdon com

Maybe this is part of a larger scheme to consolidate buyers into a smaller and more concise database? Much easier to track that way. Guess I have become very wary and cynical in this recent environment of governmental control of our hobby and Constitutional Rights.
