AMEN!
I use mine for prairie dog shooting at long range. I made the mount so I could be a little more comfortable.
I have no trouble ranging prairie dogs at 1000 yards. I've range speed goats at over a mile.
My favorite past 100 yard rifle is actually a 1872 Remington Rolling Block with a Lee Shaver .22LR insert in a 45-70 barrel. The rifle shoots the .22 to the same point of aim as the 45-70 so I can use the .22 for practice using the same sight setting.
They will stay still. You just spin that little dial and put the caps back on. Two of my hunting rifles have those and they never move. On my Long Range rigs I have Stoney Point turrets and they have held up pretty well. Factory turret replacement is the best way to go but it's expensive...
Any of those are possible. Depends on what you want to do with the rifle.
I hope you mean that your are re-barreling and not re-chambering.
.250 AI would be my choice for a 1000 yard target rifle.
I wasn't aware that Barr & Stroud made a Coincidence range finder. Most of the ones I have heard about were stereoscopic. My Wild works just like yours. Great video.
What I meant was that there are many variations and models and you don't know which one you will get. All of them are very useable. The problem I had with mine was that the leather sling had green crud on it and spare lens container was corroded. It cleaned up very nicely and only took a few...
I found mine here.

Much better price than anywhere else but you take your chance on what you get. These have been in storage for many years and will need to be cleaned up.
For long range prairie dog shooting, nothing beats an optical range finder. Mine is a Wild 8000 yard model.
Last year we added lengths of pipe to the tripod legs so we could sit,
Still got a crink in my neck from looking all week so we modified a shooting bench for this year.

In 2010 I wrote a post on Accurate Shooter that was picked up for their Daily Bulliten, concerning the use of the 6BR for deer hunting. You can find it here:

In my 8 twist 6BR I use the 105 AMAX for long range prairie dogs. SMKs would just drill a hole and the dog would wander off to their hole. For deer, I load 87 grain Hornady Interlocks. My 14 twist likes 65 & 75 grain VMAX for prairie dogs at shorter ranges.
