Good luck reaching anywhere near 2850 fps w/ 140 VLD with zero freebore. My guns I've built typically shot 2750 fps with 140 vlds with .173" freebore. Its hard to say how much velocity you would loose with zero freebore, but i would guess 100 fps.

Go with a Jewell or original Remington trigger (Pre X-Mark Pro). The Remington can be adjust to 2-2.5 lbs safely by somebody that knows what they are doing and the Jewell.....well, they are as good as triggers get. The only downside with the Jewell is that they can be more problematic when...

How did you indicate the middle of a 27" barrel?

Yes, release on the action and epoxy on the rail. I mill out pads for the epoxy to sit in the rail so it isn't paper thin. You can do the same thing with a Dremel if you don't have a mill.

We don't drill it. We bore it on center to the 8-40 tap drill size using an endmill.

Assuming the action was trued properly....the correct solution would be to have your action's base screw threads opened up to 8-40s on center. In addition i would bed the 20 MOA rail.
