My 270 has a 1 :7 twist, I can chamber 170 Berger with a 3.56 coal. They fly at 2,900 fps. Quite happy with that old caibre

Russman mentioned PMP ammo.You all LRH guys may not be familiar with this ammo but it is usually a slow cartridge even if the caliber is hot! And yes, its accuracy is not always state of the art. All my SA and Nam Friends have problems in getting consistently precise ammo!

Apart from protecting your and other peoples ears, using a suppressor can help if you want / need to shoot multiple animals from one group. Of course the type of hunt dictates the combo you will use. I use a Blaser R93 in 8x68, with a 26inch barrel and hunt in open country.
