    6.5 143 ELD-X vs Antelope Part Deux

I'm looking at this thinking it looks more like the antelope was hit at more of a quartering to angle. That entrance wound looks a bit back from the shoulder bones, and then you indicate that the stomach and intestines were hit... If the bullet entered in the shoulder bone, then went backwards...

    270 for Elk which ammo

I've used the 150 partitions with perfect results on 3 critters. Deer and elk. It expands quickly and the front half fragments a bunch, causing lots of damage, then the back half forms a compact mushroom and passes through completely. Can't go wrong with it if it shoots well for you.

Help requested for a "modest" little build

Beget has a twist rate calculator on their site. Twist Rate Stability Calculator | Berger Bullets Basically, what you will find is that a 1:9.25" twist is pretty much minimum for any decent long range bullet. 1:8" is much, much better. The old idea of having "too fast of twist" is mostly...

Plastic tipped bullets. Soldering iron test. ELDX is indeed improved...

Hornady stated somewhere in their marketing material that the tip melting was mostly a problem with muzzle velocities over 3,000 fps, and didn't really cause much trouble till the ranges exceeded 400 yards. So a 140 6.5 creedmoor with a muzzle velocity around 2750 likely isn't going to exhibit...

    Ruger Predator 6.5 Creedmoor

I don't put too much trust in manufacturer listed specs. Ruger lists the rifle at 8.12 pounds, would you say this is pretty close? How does it balance offhand? It seems like the laminate stock may keep it from getting too front heavy.

Rick Sinnott- On bear spray and guns.

Exactly what Wildrose said. Studies like this can be very prone to having the results cherry picked.

    AR500 plate.

I just bought some from an ebay seller, "gasteel inc" or something like that. They are based out of Houston, and I found their prices significantly cheaper than anything else I could find. I put quite a few rounds of 5.56 into one the other day to give it a good test. It is supposedly 3/8"...

    nosler's lr accubond

Anybody see the BC for the new 142 6.5 version? .719!? I am not sure I can believe that. Their 129 accubond lr has the same BC as the berger 130... Seems like the 142 accubond lr would be a little closer to the berger 140. Anyone able to confirm or clarify if that is a typo or their actual...

    SWFA 3-15x42 FFP?

Look up on youtube, "Rex reviews" review of the swfa 3-15x42. He thinks pretty highly of it. It's very in depth and informative.

    Android Application for elevations, etc.

I use Strelok. It's a free app, and works pretty good. I'm pretty sure it will do what you're asking. The interface took me a little bit to get used to, because it's not as intuitive as some apps, but once you play around on it for a bit it seems to be ok. As far as the actual calculations for...

    Tikka .260 Help

Last time I looked into it, there were a few 260s sold in the US in previous years, but they were rare. Currently the ctr is the only version officially offered in 260 in the US. That info is coming from a fuzzy memory though... I also remember something about guys trying to get them...

    Dpms ar-10 value?

With the scope, that seems to be a very good deal. The nice thing about ARs is if something is wacky or off, it's just one or two little parts to change out and you're in business.

Could I be losing 350-400 fps in my rifle vs factory ammo published data

You're right. It is a broad statement. But I'd say it's true at least 75% of the time. Without a chronograph guesswork is the best we can do.

    Long Range Shooting or Hunting?

I agree. I think I was preaching to the choir.

    Long Range Shooting or Hunting?

I found it and read it. I don't see any problem with their position. They say no one should shoot at an animal farther than their proven capabilities. Everyone here should agree with that. Their second point may sting the conscience of a few here, but I believe they are in the right...
