SOLD/EXPIRED Remington 700 7mm Rem Mag take off barrel

Awesome. I am very interested. I am pretty sure it's a fit with my current action. I have the Remington 700 SPS sporter barrel in the 7mm mag. Is this the set up you took it off of? I am I correct in thinking that I am looking at the right barrel for my action? (Never bought a take off before)...

    temperature changes

I agree. I think I would have had to have dropped 200 fps to get that kind of drop. Can't see how it could be paralax and still have a tight group unless I did real well at hittting the anchor spot exactly the same with poor paralax. But thought I checked that pretty well. Also same bench rest...

    temperature changes

I'm using a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50. It seems repeatable. I can run it top to bpttom and back to zero without a change in point of impact. Not 100% sure that it is exactly MOA. Seems like it can be slightly off the ballistic reading for my load and velocity at extended ranges. I should have shot...

    temperature changes

Sighted in my 7RM in 40 degree temperature and ran the ballistic and the gun shot true to those ballistics (using territed scope). Went out again in subfreezing temps and at 500 yards shot a 4 shot sub MOA group but it was about 7" low. I am using imr4831 which I think is pretty temperature...

Bedding in front of the recoil lug?

I think that's what I was trying to do except my kit didn't instruct the use of tubing. Just hand screws that pull the floor plate to the stock. (Installing the pillars to the action first and then bedding in one step). But I must not have installed the pillars tight enough to the action because...

Bedding in front of the recoil lug?

Yeah...that's what I did wrong. Upon closer look. What I thought was rub marks on the action at the pillars was my loc-tite pooled inbetween the action and the pillars. I think I followed the instructions for a "recess" pillar bed job. However, a lot of posts I have read on the Rem 700 have...

Bedding in front of the recoil lug?

Took apart the rifle today...noticed some slight wear or rub marks on the action where it connects with my pillar. Is it possible that my main contact is just on the pillars and not on the glass? When connected the pillars to the action, I made sure to only hand tighten them until they were snug...

Bedding in front of the recoil lug?

Thanks for the advice guys. I did install pillars and I did try varying loads. Today I varried torque on the action crews and had a change in groups from primarily horizontal to virtical string. That sounds like there is a pressure point somewhere in the bed?

Bedding in front of the recoil lug?

First bed job, but I can't imagine any stress anywhere unless i am not putting enough torque on the action screw and getting tight contact with the bed. I have tightened it snug but not real tight (don't have a torque measurement). There is one spot at the end of the tang where the bed looks...

Bedding in front of the recoil lug?

Ok...here's the update: Shaved off to only 1/4" of bedding in front of the lug - no difference. Removed it all and I shot a 4 shot group at .80. So that is an improvement. However, the bullets were right on top of each other just strung out horizontally. Any thoughts why the gun would shoot so...

Bedding in front of the recoil lug?

I'm not frustrated with the change in accuracy. For me it is a good opportunity to learn more about how a rifle shoots. I'm not a perfectionist and I'm OK with how it shoots. I just wanting to learn more while dong a fun project. Unfortunately I don't have an instrament to measure stress...

Bedding in front of the recoil lug?

I used the deluxe kit from scorehi.com. I think the bedding material is called pro bed 2000. I followed their instructions to tape the sides and bottom and front of the lug for clearance purposes. But they also insrtuct to bed the first 2 inches of the barrel. So your advice is to just remove...

Bedding in front of the recoil lug?

Hello Everybody, I have a Remington 700 SPS (sporter barrel) in the 7mm mag, laminate stock. I have been reloading and found a load that gave me .45 MOA. I was pretty happy with that for a factory barrel, but I wanted to pillar bed the action so that I didn't deteriorate the stock over time at...
