    RL-26 and the 33-28 Nosler....ROCKS!!!

With a mill, lathe, borescope, and competition shooting, I have learned more about such stuff than I cared to. I used to not worry and just shoot........

    RL-26 and the 33-28 Nosler....ROCKS!!!

Haven't had any issues yet but being a LR BR shooter I know how to clean out carbon. The key is to not let it build up. The carbon ring isn't hard to take care of, but the hard carbon a little further down the barrel can be stubborn.

    RL-26 and the 33-28 Nosler....ROCKS!!!

I just used a 33 Nosler reamer and ran it in about .120 deeper. It worked great. That said, it wouldn't be any issue to have a reamer maker a 33-28 Nosler reamer.

    RL-26 and the 33-28 Nosler....ROCKS!!!

In prep for an elk hunt that didn't happen, I backed off my load 1/2 grain, sighted in, and shot each reticle (B&C reticle) to determine the distance where each will hit. Since this isn't a long range rifle the scope is a Leu VX-3i, and while they hold their zero well, I don't really trust any...

The 338 RUM would be 5ish ft lbs more recoil. I like all the larger 338s.

    RL-26 and the 33-28 Nosler....ROCKS!!!

This rifle is a walking rifle designed to be portable and won't be used past 600 yds. The 340 Wby and 28 Nosler case are about optimum for that. The 340, the 338 RUM, and 338 Edge for that are a bit too long for an unmodified M-70 magazine. I didn't want to extend the magazine on this...

Yes. Necked up 28 Nosler brass to .338

Full Length or Neck Only; What's Best Resizing for Accuracy?

Yeah I get all that, but on the whole, the 300 WSM seems to win more vs the 7mms and 6.5s in LR BR. The little 6mms are first, the 300 WSM next, then all the others. I run a 6BRA and just this year built a 300 WSM again for when conditions aren't as good. Guys have been trying to make a 7...

Full Length or Neck Only; What's Best Resizing for Accuracy?

For as long as I have been involved with LR BR, though they have a lot of promise, the 7s never really seem to run as well as the 30s. That said, the 7 SAUM is the one to try.

Full Length or Neck Only; What's Best Resizing for Accuracy?

We are indeed talking about different stuff. It sounds to me like what you reference is expected erosion and likely applied to all 7.62s to include M-60 and M-240 machine guns. Once the barrel gets hot, sustained fire can cause a lot of erosion. I guess that could also happen in an M-14. I...

Full Length or Neck Only; What's Best Resizing for Accuracy?

I get nowhere near that much throat erosion. My current 300 WSM LR BR rifle's throat has moved .001" in 350 rounds. My 6 BRAs will go maybe .001" in 500 rounds. A factory 300 Win I had went .010" in 800 rounds. My larger bores don't move the throat too much. The 300 Win was babied, but I...

Full Length or Neck Only; What's Best Resizing for Accuracy?

He must view it like my friend, the 2018 NBRSA LR BR Champion, that the slightly expanding case helps keep things more consistent. I guess my own experience sort of backs that up as when I small based and had no difference in accuracy. If only the Houston warehouse was 1000 yds. I know if a...

Full Length or Neck Only; What's Best Resizing for Accuracy?

All this can be hard to understand for those who don't compete at long range. Working up a load for my 33-28 Nosler elk rifle, it can't be shot fast. The rifle recoils completely out of the front rest and the rear bag is moved out of place. It is very slow between shots and even with that I...

Full Length or Neck Only; What's Best Resizing for Accuracy?

The neck will still release the bullet when that pressure is reached, so I would speculate that startup pressure wouldn't change. It would be cool to test all this in a lab and see for sure....

Full Length or Neck Only; What's Best Resizing for Accuracy?

The FL sized brass cartridges will expend a little more energy in pushing the case to the walls of the chamber than the neck-only sized case. That can sometimes change the tune a little. Some think that the brass expansion of an FL sized case with the shoulder bumped around .003" can actual...
