You'll need to move up to at least 175 Gr match bullets to make it to 1000 yards with your 308. The only other option I can think of would be the 155 palma bullets and move them very fast.
You are doing great now with what you have. You could spend a bunch on new reloading gear and get no better results. I'd suggest a Lee collet resizer to use every other sizing or so to save some wear and tear on your brass. Maybe try some Sierra or Berger match bullets if you haven't already.
Some rifles don't like the 140Gr bullet. I've had the best results with 120 to 130 Gr bullets in my hunting rifle. H4350 is a powder that a lot folks prefer in the 260, including me.
I give you this as a data point not as advice. On my last two custom barrels I cleaned them good before shooting. I then shot 5 rounds (pressure testing) and cleaned again. I then went about my business as usual, cleaning after each range session--usually about 20 rounds. Both barrels shoot...
Crimping for a bolt gun generally is not desirable, but I will share an exception that I encountered. Many years ago I bought a bolt 30/06 with an unbelievably long throat. I could barely reach the lands even with 180 Gr bullets, much less the 150's I wanted to use for deer. I struggled to...
I'd advise against the 100 Gr BT's at 3400 fps. Best case they make a terrible mess and worst case they blow up and you lose a trophy. The 130 Gr Nos AB and the 129 Gr Horn IB work well for me.
I do agree that thick necks could well be part of this. The other thing is according to the Nosler manual you were .5 Gr below max except you used a Win primer instead of the Remington that is recommended. In my experience with two different 260's that can make a big difference. The Remington...
I have a set I would sell. They are 30" sporting bbls with the wide strada rib and matte finish, mobile choke. shot very little in excellent condition. $800 email if interested [email protected] drop x's
H4831 is a fine powder for 270Win. I get a little better velocity out of IMR4831 but its not that big a deal. My rifle likes Nosler Ballistic tips. My son's doesn't like them, but shoots best with regular flat base speers in 130 Gr. My groups shrank markedly when I switched from CCI200 to...
I think you are on the right track. Simpler, more rugged, and often brighter than varibles. I have a Meostar 7X56 that I would sell. Super bright scope. I had it on my woods rifle, but went back to a variable now that I use the rifle for everything.
