I'm having a 22" 17HMR Contender bored to to 17 Hornet.

I use the .223 50g. V-Max spxp.

I've been looking for the 17 Hornet but no gun stores in this area were able to order the savage. I changed gears and found a load for my .223 in 40g Hornady using a lite load of Blue Dot. very little muzzle jump and much quieter than the full load .223. 3,000+fps and excellent accuracy.

bullets: try the Hornady SP XP 50g. I have NEVER had a pass through.

Interesting on pinhole in and out. It doesn't make sense to me on the bullet not expending its energy inside the animal. The full metal jacket is the reason the military is required to use them. I know the SP XP I use completely comes apart inside the yote expending all energy on the organs...

On coyote I us the Hornady 50g. SP XP. I have never had a passthrough.

I have 2,000+ rounds down my .204 Savage.. The gun still shoots better than I do. I put a Choate stock on it and have it weighted to 20 lbs. The glass is a Leipold 8.5x 25x50. It is strictly a bench gun. I use the .223 for coyotes and the .204 on ground squirrels.

For ground squirrels go to Modoc Co, NE Cali. Just knock on ranchers doors to introduce yourself. I have a card printed with my info. to present to the rancher. Rarely will you be turned down.

I kinda did the same thing only I leaded the Choat stock. This is definitely a bench gun at 20 lbs, but I see every bullet strike. Makes doe decent video too. go to You Tube, STEVEASKE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.

could be with more rounds down the tube and cleaning with JP cleaner you will be "lapping" and smooth the barrel.....improving accuracy. There are many articles on barrel lapping.

What is your MV with that load? I have choreographed the .204 at 4100+ or -. my last 3 shot group .232 not bad considering I'm on my 3rd brick of primers..........I think I could have squeaked out another hundredth or so.
